Xray shows mild multilevel degenerative disc disease with multilevel anterior endplate osteophytes. What does this mean?
Arthritis of spine: The end plates on either side of each vertebral bone articulate with the end plates of the ones above and below it. These can become enlarged over time with degenerative arthritis or following trauma. Eventually the space between the vertebrae becomes narrowed and pain sensitve structures like spinal nerves get pinched. ...Read more

What is diffuse degenerative endplate changes wth extensive multi level disc osteophyte disease /implication ?
What do "broad based posterior spurring", "disc osteophyte complex" "mod. bilateral foraminal narrowing" degenerative endplate uptake" mean?
Bone spurs: Endplates are vertebral body structures adjacent to the intervertebral disc. Each vertebra has a superior and inferior endplate, with a few exceptions. As one ages , there may be osteophytes that grow from one endplate, around the disc, toward the adjacent endplate, forming a bony bridge between two vertebra. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hard to say: The treatment options for someone with the MRI findings you are describing are based also on the degree of problem you have had with it and also with the understanding that many people can respond to nonoperative care. That being said, an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion is the time tested surgery for that condition and is reasonably safe and effective. Thank you for your question. ...Read more

Lumbosacral spondylosis with disc degeneration, mild posterior disc bulge at l3-4level indenting thecal sac, lateral canals & neural foraminae, treatment?
DDD=arthritis: Arthritis/spondylosis of the disc is ddd. Like wrinkles of skin, ddd happens to everyone to some degree. It starts to be evident on MRI late teens and early 20's, progressing with age. Ddd/arthritis does not = pain. So don't let the diagnosis bother you. Treatment is specific to the pain. If back pain, nonsurgical. Nsaids/tylenol, pt/core strength. For sciatica, above plus nerve root injections. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What is diffuse disc bulge, central protrusion with annular fissure, ligamentum flavum thickening?
Aging changes: MRI results of the spine often sound terrible, when in fact they represent what we already know....that you are over 45 and your back hurts. What you really want to know from MRI results is if there are any abnormalities which correspond to your specific location and type of pain, which are likely to benefit from having surgery. Speak to your surgeon about his or her interpretation of the films ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Pinched nerve: Cervical spondylosis is arthritis in the neck. Foraminal stenosis means narrowing of the space where the nerves exit the spinal canal, in this case caused by bone spurs from arthritis. After they leave the neck these nerves form the three major nerves of the arm, controlling feeling and movement. Stenosis can cause pain, weakness, numbness or tingling in the arm or hand. High grade = severe. ...Read more

What are symptoms: What the risks are of not treating those anatomical findings depends and what your symptoms are. The spinal stenosis is of more concern as it may lead to a more severe neurological deficient and the potential for permanent damage a concern. If there are no symptoms, the risks may be less.
