Lab variation: This is usually not alarming. It is usually considered lab variation. Most of the time the ordering physician considers the reason they ordered the test, and decides if the variation has any significance in relation to that reason. If so, then they sometimes re-order at a future date to see if it indicates a certain directional trend. ...Read more

TSH normal at 1.35 T4 8 (range 10-20) T3 (liothyronine) 5.8 (range 3.2-6.0) what are reasons for low T4 levels when TSH is normal and T3 (liothyronine) high normal?
Hypothyroidism: This likely indicates secondary hypothyroidism, due to problem with your pituitary gland. Normally, if the T4 is low, the pituitary will produce more TSH to try and induce the thyroid glad to produce more T4. However, if there is a problem with the pituitary, then the TSH is either low or normal despite a low T4. Be sure to follow up with the doctor how ordered these tests. ...Read more
No: The normal range is 4-20 depending on the lab. That being said even four is at the low range. Try to be at least 50% or higher since Folic Acid is helpful for replicating cells, fertility, possible helpful in neuromuscular disease. I recommend at least 800mcg to 1mg daily until you catch up and then taking them about 3-4x/week to maintain your levels. ...Read more
Had abnormal k/ light chain ratio six months ago; now ratio is wnl, but kappa level remains elevated three blood panels later. Thoughts?
I'm not sure I could: make much of a prognostic distinction between an abnormal kappa/light chain ratio and kappa elevation. Produced within plasma cells, heavy and light chains bind together to form immunoglobulins. Typically producing more light chains than required ,the plasma cells enter the blood as free light chains. The activity of myeloma/plasma cell growth is linked to the amount of free light chains in blood. ...Read more
What does an elevated Gloublin of 4.2 mean?? (Normal range is 2.0-4.0)
Albumin normal at 3.9 (Normal range is 3.5-5.0).
Probably nothing: This is such a minor elevation, it probably just means you were fighting off a cold or minor infection and the antibodies in your immune system (which are made of globulins) were slightly elevated when you took this test. I would repeat it when you are feeling completely well, and if it is still elevated, discuss further testing with your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Lab error?: The TSH is elevated, but the free T4 is in the upper range of normal. One can have subclinical hypothyroidism where the TSH level is high, with normal free t4, though usually the free T4 is in the low range of normal. You should have the test repeated after 1 month. Your vitamin d level looks low, you should take a vit d supplement of around 2000 iu daily. ...Read more

Check it again: Maybe, if your doctor wishes. The key is that there's no abnormal cells seen. I often wish labs didn't even report percentages. Platelets can be high from mild iron deficiency or nobody-knows-why. Lymphocyte and neutrophil percentages fluctuate chaotically perhaps as we fight off subclinical viral infections. ...Read more
