I had an "abnormal" xray taken yesterday. It shows a baseball sized mass in my right lung. Any chance it's not cancer?

Yes: Pneumonia, benign tumors, cysts, and even congenital lung lesions such as sequestrations can present this way. Try to keep a positive outlook until this is thoroughly evaluated. ...Read more

I have a nickel size mass in right lung. The only symptom I have had is I have lost 25 lbs in last 3 months without trying. No ins to see doctor yet. ?

Do not wait: This can mean your life. Find a city or county hospital, or indigent care facility. Try to call a doctor and explain your circumstances, they might be willing to see you for free. You need to know if this is cancer or an infection. Infection is curable, cancer can be curable now, but will not be later. ...Read more

Does inflammatory vs malignancy in the remarks of CT scan of lungs with 203cc solid mass mean its cancer?

Does inflammatory vs malignancy in the remarks of CT scan of lungs with 203cc solid mass mean its cancer?

No: No. It is at times difficult to differentiate inflammation/infection from a malignancy on ct. Pet/ct may more helpful where there is suspicion. However, this may also limited in differentiating infection/ inflammation from cancer. That being said, imaging does not arrive at a pathological diagnosis. When possible, any suspicion of lung cancer requires pathological confirmation through a biopsy. ...Read more

5cm Pleural mass in right lung..pet scan show not cancer...is surgery still necessary and what are the risks ..thanks?

Lung mass: Something is missing! There must have been symptoms that led to a pet scan. Unless a biopsy was performed how could your doctor simply say that there was no cancer? I hope there was indeed no cancer but the symptoms that led to the pet scan should be a cause for biopsy. Do the doctors have any idea what the pleural mass might be? Please keep me informed. ...Read more

Can a lung mass mean cancer?

Can a lung mass mean cancer?

Not always : But it should be evaluated. Depending on it size and appearance, your doc may be more or less inclined to get a biopsy. I'm assuming he/she will if it is a "mass" and not a "tiny nodule" but not much more can be said with the info provided. Make sure you see your family doc and he/she will decide on the next step. If you smoke, this is the time to quit. ...Read more

I have a 4mm lung nodule on my right lung 2 on my left could it be cancer?

I have a 4mm lung nodule on my right lung 2 on my left could it be cancer?

Maybe....: ...maybe not. If they are all less than 5-6 mm, there is usually not a whole lot to do other than observation and follow up. PET scans are usually not too sensitive for very tiny nodules. I would defer, however, to the judgement of your physician who knows your situation better and can determine if there is anything else to do now. If you smoke, please stop. Best to you. ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
