RULE OUT MONO: You have upper respiratory infection most likely associated with lymph nodes emergent in the neck
you need to be on two week courses of antibiotic and reevaluate
might need to rule out mono if the lymph nodes persist in spite of the antibiotic treatment

Seasonal flu: It is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. If there is no improvement or sore throat is severe or lasts longer than a week, or you are getting joint pain; see your pcp for evaluation.
On another note: some people might believe that cigar smoking is safer than cigarette smoking, but it's not.
