Main role of acid phosphatase?

Main role of acid phosphatase?

Stage of cancer: Sensitivity of prostatic acid phosphatase is very low 39% of the prostatic carcinomas acid phosphatase level was below the upper limit of normal fixed at 3.2ng. Specificity is high t 96% of cases with abnormally high ri acid phosphatase levels, the diagnosis was adenocarcinoma. In the absence of bone metastases high acid phosphatase level is predictive of lymph node involvement in 90%.Serum tar. ...Read more

What exactly is the role of protein phosphatase-1 in insulin to insulin receptor interaction?

What exactly is the role of protein phosphatase-1 in insulin to insulin receptor interaction?

Complex interaction: Phosphoprotein phosphatase is activated by the insulin, which indicates that there is a high concentration of glucose in the blood. The enzyme then acts to dephosphorylate other enzymes. The net effect is for glucose to enter the cell where it can be metabolized andlalso lowers the serum glucose level. ...Read more

What role does alkaline phosphatase play in liver function tests?

What role does alkaline phosphatase play in liver function tests?

Non specific: It is 1of the tests done 4 liver function. Also present in kidneys placenta and bone. So as a stand alone test it is not real helpful. In combination with other tests it can b more specific 4 the liver. As a stand alone it could b related 2 bone tumor, paget's disease of bone or renal disease .If elevated and the liver=cause. Hepatitis bile duct obstruction drug toxicity as tylenol (acetaminophen) or etoh abuse. ...Read more

Suffering from hepatitis a, i still have high levels of alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin. Main problem is severe itching all round the day, ?

Suffering from hepatitis a, i still have high levels of alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin. Main problem is severe itching all round the day, ?

Yes: The elevated bilirubin is what causes the itching. The bilirubin is deposited in the skin, that is what makes you yellow, and it itches. There is nothing you can do except wait until your liver gets better and the bilirubin drops down to normal. In the meantime, taking an antihistamine might help, but you have to watch for sedation. Talk to your doctor about that. ...Read more

Elevated alkaline phosphatase value of 125 U/L. Is this a sign of primary biliary cirrhosis? Could the level be due to my Hep B?

Elevated alkaline phosphatase value of 125 U/L. Is this a sign of primary biliary cirrhosis? Could the level be due to my Hep B?

High level,,,: This is a high level for alkaline phosphatase certainly, but to say it's from primary biliary cirrhosis is harder as there are other things like high bilirubin and symptoms like itching and jaundice (yellow skin) and antibodies like anti-mitochondrial antibodies. It also could be due to Hep B or any increased liver activity or other things and it's not that high so see your Dr. For other tests. ...Read more

I have low vitamin d, low alkaline phosphatase, high uric acid and high triglycerides. Is there something that links all of these together?

I have low vitamin d, low alkaline phosphatase, high uric acid and high triglycerides. Is there something that links all of these together?

There is some: relationship between low vitamin D and alkaline phosphatase as both influence bone metabolism. But typically dysfunctional bone turnover raises alkaline phosphatase; a low value suggests some impairment of the gall bladder/bile duct/liver system. High uric acid is often genetic, but can be dietary: seafood (scallops/sardines), liver, red meat. Beer/sugary drinks raise uric acid and triglycerides! ...Read more
