Constipated so doc said try Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide). Will laxative disrupt the gut flora and cause C Diff? I've had C Diff 3 times and worry. It gave me PTSD
Safe laxative: C difficile usually overgrows because an antibiotic kills off the more friendly bacteria. We've used milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for centuries but only saw C diff colitis with the heavy use of antibiotics. Constipation itself is dangerous. Yes!: The colon needs water & fiber to function normally. If you're not drinking > 64 ounces of fluids/day, or < 50 g of fiber a day, your colon can't work well. Fiber supplements (like benefiber 2 tbsp 1-2x/day) are great! if you have a change in your bowel habits, you need a colonoscopy. I just ate a small bite of a cookie laced with a whole pack of laxatives and a small amount of milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide). My tongue and throat is burning.
Constipated for 4 days. Stool softener produced a few small stools. Took Philips milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide). Stimulant free. Safe? Go to ER if it doesn't work?
