Wait for prep 2 work: The purpose of the liquid prep (which everyone agrees tastes really awful) is to clean out your colon so the dr using scope can see clearly during the exam. It is designed to cause successive bouts of diarrhea, until you can't go any more. If you only vomited up a little, it may still work as designed. A full bottle of citrate of magnesia will likely be far more effective than the other agents, especially if one stays physically active, fasts, take 2 days prior & chase with another bottle 1 day prior. Mag Citrate: Several options: chill and drink slowly. Have hot coffee/tea before to get intestines simulated in the correct direction. Use MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) the morning of and/or day before, again to get the tract flowing easily. ...Read more

Depends on whether: you are constipated and not drinking enough caffeine free/alcohol free fluid. Try some enemas to clear out any stool in your rectum. Do not take any more Mag Citrate without talking with your doctor first. May need to reschedule your scope. ...Read more

Surgery prep says take one bottle of magnesium citrate. bought milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide). Same or different?

Different: Magnesium citrate is different than milk of magnsesia. Look for citrate in a colored glass bottle usually. Ask the pharmacist if you cannot find it. It is a clear liquid and will cause BM fairly soon after you ingest it so I advise to take it at home. Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) will also cause a bowel movement but not as rapidly. ...Read more

Just mag citrate: You can have just magnesium citrate. Why are you having bowel prep. Discuss with your physician if mag citrate is a substitute that is satisfactory alternative.
