This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more

Drinking 20oz of magnesium citrate for a colonoscopy prep. What are chances of magnesium overdose?
I took my colonoscopy prep 2 and a half hours ago I barely vomitted it up just now. I took 2 bottles of magnesium citrate. My test is 12:30 tomorrow afternoon what should I do?
Wait for prep 2 work: The purpose of the liquid prep (which everyone agrees tastes really awful) is to clean out your colon so the dr using scope can see clearly during the exam. It is designed to cause successive bouts of diarrhea, until you can't go any more. If you only vomited up a little, it may still work as designed. If you don't experience results, call and reschedule the exam. They may give you a diff prep ...Read more
Scheduled for colonoscopy but afraid magnesium citrate won't clear my colon. Docqulace and bisacodyl failed to evacuate colon. Will the citrate work?
AlwaysAGuess; agent,: dose & response relationships (with all the usual complex individual variables). A full bottle of citrate of magnesia will likely be far more effective than the other agents, especially if one stays physically active, fasts, take 2 days prior & chase with another bottle 1 day prior. Just keep up clear liquids. Awareness of heart beats both a focus & a self-distraction (from other greater) issues. ...Read more

Can I take magnesium citrate at 33 weeks pregnant? I have not had a bowel movement in over a week and I am experiencing pain from kidney stones
Please ask you OB what to do. Strong Laxative can stimulate Uterine contraction along with Peristalsis and then premature Labor. You do not want to have Premature Delivery.
If you have Kidney stones, then you must be under Urologists care along with OB.
Drink lots of water and fluid until you talk to YOUR doctors. ...Read more
Was very constipated and bloated with very hard stomach took magnesium citrate and felt relief but minutes after still got very bloated with pain in left lower abdomen, what could this be?
Constipation: Magnesium citrate temporarily relaxes the smooth muscle in the large intestine and allows hard stool to start to move through it. The pain you might be feeling is still the hard stool pushing its way through. I would use an OTC medication like Miralax (polyethylene glycol) which draws extra water into the large intestine, increasing motility and making the stool softer as it passes through to the rectum. ...Read more

Your choice: Colon lavage preps are designed to "wash through" the gut without being absorbed. As such, flavors used are restricted to sugar-free products (sugar promotes water absorption), & should avoid colors that stain the gut (red-colored preps are particularly troublesome when searching for bleeding sites). Commercial flavor choices: cherry, orange, wild berry, lemon-lime, pineapple, or no flavor added. ...Read more

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow. I took my bowel prep of about an hour ago. In how much time will it start working? Will a gatorade/miralax mix not work?
May not work: A gatorade and MiraLAX combination is not a common bowel prep in my experience. Miralax is an excellent laxative but if only one dose is taken, it is not likely to clean the colon out as well as is optimal for colonoscopy. A single dose might not produce a bm for a day or 2. Gatorade is an electrolyte-rich drink but not likely as effective as GoLytely or other polyethylene glycol solutions. ...Read more
