Macrosomia Ultrasound For Fetal Size
When you subtract 2 weeks from the ga provided by an ultrasound, does that give you the estimated fertilisation age or the estimated fetal age?
Yes: When estimating gestational age by using an ultrasound scan, 2 weeks are added to the fetal age (the fetal age is the fertilisation age). ...Read more
The sonogram is a test that looks at body organs with no radiation. It uses sound waves and can give us a 2 dimensional view of organs such as the kidney, liver, heart, and lungs. It can define spaces that are either solid or full of fluid. I can also guide large needles into an organ or near the spine, and can help define the area being cut open. Its a ...Read more
Is 14 weeks too early for the routine anatomy ultrasound? Is there a big difference in fetal size at 14 weeks and 18 wks?
Would 14 weeks be too early for the routine anatomy ultrasound compared to doing it at 18-20wks? Would there be a big diff in fetal size 14wk vs. 18wk?
Talk to MD: The perinatologist is the best one to answer this question. Yes there is a big difference in size between a 14 wks fetus to a 20 week fetus, so yes it will be easier to do a screening ultrasound with a bigger baby. However, if you have concerns related to your pregnancy, or perhaps difficulty with a previous pregnancy, you should talk to md. ...Read more
What size should gestational sac be at 5 weeks 6 days? Ultrasound today, 13 mm NO yolk sac or fetal pole. HCG 561 progesterone 119 5/19/14, HCG 1255 5/21/14. IUI 5/2/14. Should I be concerned?
Possibly: Usually at 5 weeks there is a yolk sac and fetal pole. However, there is a variation in the ultrasound dating so this may still be a very early pregnancy. Just had an ultrasound today am supposed to be 9 weeks...last mp was 8/6/15 showing fetus +- 6 weeks in size no heartbeat and hcg levels 35000...help!
Sorry: Unfortunately, with bHCG at 35,000 and no FHT, I am sorry to say, the result does not look good. You need to talk with your Obstetrician ASAP. It helps to repeat the bHCG in 2 days to see if it drops or it doubles. Also, repeat the ultrasound. Sometimes, the worse looking situations can yield surprisingly positive results... like the sonographer being wrong. Good luck. ...Read more

Maybe: If your dates are accurate then there may be an issue. But suppose your dates are not exactly accurate. Off by a week or two can make a world of difference on an ultrasound . Best talk to your doctor. He will correlate with blood level of HCG and go from there. ...Read more
My daughters ultra sound showed the fetus to have a body size of 59 percent and a head size of 88 percent. The technologist wasnt worried is it a prob?
Ultrasound: pregnant: It may be a problem if this is done late in pregnancy, but if less than 20 weeks pregnant, the body is routinely less advanced than head (biparietal diameter) size. Only later in pregnancy is the disparity between body and head size worrisome. Ask your obstetric provider to give you details, which depend on when the ultrasound is done in pregnancy. ...Read more
