Macroprolactin (Overview)

Presumably you mean "macroprolactinoma", which are pitutary tumors that make prolactin. A "macro" is a big one (>10mm). The high prolactin shuts down lh and fsh and causes loss of periods (women) and low testosterone (men). A big tumor can cause visual problems, headaches. There are excellent drugs (cabergoline, bromocriptine) to shrink the tumor, normalize hormones. Surgery usually not needed.

If you have any symptoms, you will need a work up to be sure there is not a pituitary problem in addition to the macroprolactin. ...Read more
