Maalox Maximum Strength Medication
I have been suffering with peptic ulcer since Tues. I have been taking Pepcid (famotidine) AC prescription strength along with Maalox nothing is helping?
How to know which kind of medication I should take for occasional stomach pain, an antacid like maalox or a anti-spasmodic like buscopan?
Stomach pain: First we should determine the cause of the stomach pain. Many patients have stomach pain because of diet related issues, others from inflammation, genetics, virus, bacteria, etc. Have you tried a no-gluten, very low carbohydrate diet before? If now, start this first. You may find you will no longer need meds. Do you smoke? Where do you work? Work with chemicals? Consult with us to help you better. ...Read more
Can maalox (aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide and simethicone) cause some drug allergy symptoms like rash?
Yes: One can become allergic to any substance at any time, even if you have tolerated it before. Dangerous allergic reactions such as lip, face, tongue, or throat swelling require immediate trip to er; lesser reactions like a rash or hives can be treated with over the counter Benadryl (diphenhydramine) -- for an adult 2 tablets every 4 hours. Good luck! ...Read more

I think so...: ...though it may be overkill, or not. Maalox acts very quickly, whereas ranitidine must be absorbed into the bloodstream and then travel through the circulation to the parietal cells in the stomach where it blocks the H2 receptor. Making a long story short: Maalox can provide immediate relief of dyspepsia while you're waiting for the more sustained effects of ranitidine to occur. ...Read more
Decreases absorption: Buscopan absorption will be decreased by maalox, and you might not get the full benefit from buscopan. ...Read more
Immediately: Zantac (ranitidine) will decrease acid production and Maalox will help buffer the acid already in your stomach. For my patients having indigestion I usually recommend a drug like Zantac (ranitidine) taken as instructed on package insert along with an antacid like Maalox taken after each meal and at bedtime. ...Read more

Yes you can: Yes you can take malox for nausea. ...Read more
Find symptom's cause: Nausea may be GI-related (food poisoning, peptic disease, gastroparesis, due to biliary & pancreatic disease, gas/bloat syndrome, small bowel problems. Consider "central" causes: motion sickness, vertigo, migraine headache, brain problems (some very serious). Also, rule out infection (? Urinary tract), medication side effects, pregnancy, & even reaction to stress. Antacids just neutralize acid. ...Read more

Family practice: Maalox helps to coat the stomach. It may temporarily alter ph but you may need something that actually refuses acid production. You may be developing an ulcer so should see a GI specialist. ...Read more
I take dexliant 60mg at night for gerd. I have flair ups and was wondering if it was ok to take maalox for faster relief when the flair ups happen.
Be observant: Maalox contains aluminum which can complex with phosphate. Plain calcium carbonate like Tums or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) can both neutralize stomach acid. It is useful to determine what triggers flares and avoid the triggers. Sometimes doing moves to treat hiatal hernia prevents the need for anti-acids. Eating small frequent meals helps as well. ...Read more

Took neozep at 2pm. Then took Robitussin (guaifenesin) at 3pm. Had upset stomch then took maalox... the pain is still there so had tramadol for the pain at 4pm. Over?
More isn't better: I'm sure you know now that taking Neozep (chlorpheneramine, phenylephrine and acetaminophen) and then Robitussin (guaifenesin) (various versions) just 1 hr later may have been too much too soon. Taking tramadol 1 hr after that may just add to nausea etc. You list cough and gallstones as a condition, so perhaps your pain is due to the stones in which case you should probably see your MD as soon as possible. ...Read more

What to do if I have a canker sore. I read that maalox is good for it, but I don't have maalox, What to do if I have mintox?
Zilactin;Orabase: Mintox is for stomach acid and will probably have little effect on the canker sore (apthous ulcer). Avoid spicy and acid foods and toothpastes containing SLSA to reduce future outbreaks of these sores. ...Read more
