A child I babysit came down with hand, foot, mouth virus, will Lysol wipes kill this virus? What is the best prevention?
Brief exposure is ok: If only on skin surfaces, brief exposures are ok, but it's best to use wipes made for skin. There are probably 5 different kids of Lysol wipes, so one would have to read the labels to see what's in them. The most common wipes likely have alcohol, similar to any hand sanitizer gel. Wipes made for skin will likely have gentler ingredients or gentler amounts of the ingredients. Diaper wipes are ok. ...Read more

Probably not, but:
Soap and water is much better for cleaning skin.

Maybe. Maybe not.: One can just use a big vacuum cleaner with a small brush attachment, and then brush and vacuum the helmet. Lice are little bugs, and they will get sucked up. Nits are glued to hairs, so there won't be a free nit in a helmet. Any nit will still be glued to a hair, which will get sucked up. Lysol is not needed. ...Read more

Why take risks???: Mrsa aside, why are you sleeping with a child. Cosleeping with infants is associated with suffication deaths (see aap position statement pediatrics 11/11). By mid childhood this fosters dependence at a time when kids should begin to create their own individuality & accomplishments. ...Read more
Nuvaring fell out onto floor. Rinsed it twice with soap and water and then wiped with a Clorox/Lysol disinfecting wipe. Will it lose effectiveness?
Uncertain effect: Nuvaring should not be falling out when in the vagina. Ask your doctor to check and verify that you are placing it correctly. It can be out of the vagina for up to three hours. Washing with soap and water is safe. I'm not sure what the effect of washing it with Lysol would be though. That could affect the ability of hormones to be released the safest thing to do is to dispose of it and place anothcheck and verify that you are placing it correctly. 15 weeks pregnant. Used lysol cleaning wipes to clean bathrooms. No gloves. Had room fan on, and no windows. Is this ok? Wipes also contain peroxide.
Lysol wipes are safe and peroxide used topically is safe as well, I'm not aware of any pregnancy warnings. The fan is helpful and if there are fumes, the window should be open.
There are however lots of natural cleaning solutions that you can make yourself that would be safer. ...Read more

I am about 5 weeks pregnant and just did quite a bit of cleaning (without gloves or a mask) with lysol disinfectant wipes. Should I be worried?
No: Lysol disinfectant is a safe product, even if you did a lot of cleaning! . It may cause eye irritation if you get some in your eyes, and possible skin irritation if you have sensitive skin. There are no known cancer causing ingredients and no known dangers if inhaled to the degree you would be exposed while cleaning, so you and your baby will be fine. Wear gloves if you have skin irritation tho'! ...Read more
Cleaned flat stove top off with lysol wipe after spilling juice of raw meat. Cooked on it and forgot to wash lysol off. Could smell. Will fumes hurt?
No: At that small amount of exposure I would not be concerned especially if cooking in kitchen and not in any enclosed space. If any eye, nose, throat, chest irritation that does not resolve in 1-2 hours or gets worse, see your doctor. Hope this was helpful. Best of luck. Dr. R ...Read more

It's fine: Unless the fumes are strong enough to make you pass out, you should be fine. No evidence that using Lysol to clean is harmful and your skin is a good barrier against most cleaning solutions. ...Read more
Maybe but no studies: Probably, but the information from osha about managing blood born pathogens does not include these products for cleaning. Professional lysol is appropriate for hep a, but not listed for b/c or hiv. The appropriate approach is to use bleach, but not as wipes, instead as a bleach solution. And use gloves and other personal protection devices. Here is the link from osha: http://1.Usa. Gov/mgjiw5. ...Read more
Can I spray Lysol disinfectant on a fabric toy for my newborn if after it dries I wipe off the tether part with a wipe or soap and water?

Can you kill herpes simplex virus by anti bacterial wipes or wet ones after an hour 2 after an encounter? I know lysol does
Don't count on it: Have you been exposed? Herpes 1 or 2? The only sure way to avoid herpes is to avoid contact. Possibly oral Acyclovir or valcyclovir will reduce infection rate significantly. Condoms help but are not completely protective. The traditional solution to this problem is to find the right partner and limit sex exclusively to this one person forever. Magic wipes are not the answer. Lysol will not help yo. ...Read more
Make a call: I got this from a website: when using lysol spray, be sure there is plenty of ventilation. Do not spray near your face and risk inhaling the fumes. Use on fabrics such as rayon, acrylic plastics and wood will cause damage. If you did not inhale, you may be ok, but I would call a local poison control at a hospital, etc and ask just to be sure. ...Read more
Yes: Lysol is a perfectly good agent to eradicate the virus that causes hand/foot/mouth disease. The bigger trick is to get all the surfaces that a child may have touched covered in your cleaning regimen. Good luck! Take a break now and then and sit and cuddle and read a book to your sick child. The bathtub will still be there when you're done! ...Read more
