Doctor insights on:
My GP has me on remeron and Lyrica for anxiety. I have 4 st in 2 years despite exercising and dieting. What is causing the weight. Many Thanks?
Remeron side effect: On the one hand, on the other hand. Everything in life has its risks and its benefits. The main indication for prescribing Remeron is for treatment of depression. It can also cause weight gain. You, the patient, have to discuss with your doc your concerns about the weight gain. There are other treatments for depression including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which does not involve drugs. ...Read more

Self meds No=No!: If you are a physician and are very familiar with the medication and it's side effects and interactions with other meds then less of a no, no but still not wise. First of all it is difficult to objectively self diagnose let alone select proper treatment and monitoring by yourself. Being informed & working with your dr. Is different than self medicating. I am taking Lyrica (pregabalin) for Anxiety. I find it great. How long does the sedating effect last. Thanks?
Does lyrica (pregabalin) cause anxiety attacks I took mine last night and felt like it have me one?
Anxiety attack Lyric:
I have not seen Lyrica (pregabalin) cause panic or anxiety episodes.
Sometimes it is used to reduce anxiety in certain patients.
Many patients read the side effects and research the medication on the internet, and become apprehensive - then they relate certain side effects to the medicine. ...Read more
Any Drs on here ever use Lyrica (pregabalin) for severe anxiety after nothing else has worked? What were results??
Not: Indicated for anxiety. But beyond that even off label use is not done with it since the mechanism of action does not work with seratonin or norepinephrine. Bottom line: ssri's are top shelf treatment for anxiety and it will be very difficult to locate a psychiatrist who has solid experience with Lyrica (pregabalin). ...Read more
Being given lyrica (pregabalin) for severe anxiety and some depression. Is this considered the best drug for both anx+depre? I feel I'm on the wrong drug!
D/W prescriber: I am not sure why Lyrica (pregabalin) was selected. Do you have fibromyalgia/ neuropathic pain? It is an anticonvulsant that is also used for pain control. In europe it also has an indication for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (but not in the us at this time). If the only conditions it is being used for are anxiety/ depression - then it would off label use and quite far from first line. D/w the. ...Read more
I have bipolar ii, taking lamictal 200 mg, lyrica (pregabalin) 500mg (for anxiety, bc. Nothing else had helped) but still have a lot of anxiety. Any advice?
Things you can do.: Don't expect medications to be the total answer. Talking therapy ranks really high. Cognitive behavioral therapy can be quite effective. Aim for daily exercise, 8 hours of sleep per night & good nutrition with 5 servings of veggies & 4 of fruit per day. Try tai chi, yoga, qi gong, progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing exercises & meditation. Don't isolate - spend time with friends & >>. ...Read more
My GP is weaning me off benzos too fast, having extreme rebound anxiety. Would Lyrica (pregabalin) be good support option, and Wellbutrin to reset GABA sensitivity?
No: Lyrica (pregabalin) is sodium channel blocker. It is widely used for both paroxysmal and continuous neuropathic pain conditions such as postherpetic neuralgia and diabetic neuropathy as well as trigeminal neuralgia and atypical odontalgia. Lyrica (pregabalin) has also been prescribed as a prophylactic headache medication, but has no anxiolitic properties. Talk to your physician for medication adjustment. ...Read more
Let me guess: You're taking lyrica (pregabalin) & now you're irratable & anxious. So the answer is probably yes: lyrica (pregabalin) causes irratability & anxiety in YOUR case. Only way to know for sure is to stop it to see if irratability & anxiety go away & then restart it to see if they come back. Only way to know if they'll go away with continued use is to keep taking it & see. There is no crystal ball about these issues. ...Read more
After infrequent use will I then experience the same kind of rebound anxiety from the sedating effects of the lyrica (pregabalin) the following day?
Lyrica (pregabalin) and Emotions!: Be mindful of the effects of Lyrica (pregabalin) on your mental and emotional health. While considered helpful for neuropathy and perhaps even mood stabilization, Pregabalin like its sister Gabapentin (Neurontin) may have some concerning side effects that warrant a re-examination of the use of this medication. ...Read more

I've been on lyrica (pregabalin) for over a year now it's helped with fibromyalgia but my anxiety has got worse and migraines I can't even be around people now?
Further treatment: There is often a complex interaction between chronic pain, anxiety, depression and stress/triggers to migraine. In general, when on chronic meds for a chronic condition and things worsen, new symptoms develop, or symptoms remain at problematic levels, its time for re-assessment and consideration fo med adjustments or additional therapies. Psychotherapy often helps migraine and anxiety. ...Read more
Coming off of lyrica (pregabalin) 25mg p.W, & increased cipralex to 20mg last friday. I'm having increased anxiety & suffering early waking every morning 5:20. Why?
Short Term: You are stopping a medication that is sedating and has some immediate anxiety reducing effects (lyrica - pregabalin) and increasing the dose of a medication that has delayed effects on anxiety, that is not particularly sedating and that can have some short term activating effects (insomnia, jitteriness) (cipralex, Lexapro - escitalopram). For a week or two you can expect these effects. ...Read more
Anxiety is ruining my life been on lyrica (pregabalin) for months and no improvement. What are the most effective meds for anxiety and depression?
Take 50mgs of lyrica (pregabalin) 3 times a day for pain & anxiety, and I also take hydrocodone 10/325 for migraines. Is it safe to mix?
Be very careful:
You are taking a relatively low dose of lyrica, (pregabalin) and may be taking a high dose of hydrocodone for your migraines. You may become very sedated due to taking both. If you have migraines regularly, there are probably better choices than the hydrocodone.
You need to regularly consult with your treating physician to coordinate the treatment for these conditions. Be careful, open and honest. ...Read more
I have severe anxiety and have been put on lyrica (pregabalin) for 2 months now and almost zero improvement. Why would any doctor insist on this med?
Concerned: I'm concerned that you use the word "insist". If that is accurate, perhaps you need to find another doctor or at least have a good conversation to find out what symptoms it was intended to treat. If you have a close friend or relative you trust to come along, it might help you remember the answers or write it down. It is not the 1st choice for anxiety - but particular types of pain. Feel well soon. ...Read more

Is there a pill that can help with my neuropathy and anxiety at the same time. I've tried Neurontin and lyrica (pregabalin) didn't help?
It depends: It depends on what's causing your neuropathy. Sometimes older medications called "tricyclic antidepressants" can help both anxiety and neuropathy. New medications such as duloxitine and venlafaxine can also help. Finally, don't overlook behavioral techniques such as visualization exercises which can decrease pain sensitivity and also help anxiety. Hope this answer helps. ...Read more
I am on 30mg remeron, 150mg lyrica (pregabalin) 3 times daily and 15mg lexapro for G A D an in borne genetic anxiety personality. Is this a lot of Meds. Thanks?
Not necessarily...: The short answer to "is this a lot of medication? " is that it depends on several factors, most of which should be discussed with a doctor. For example, with a life long illness at this certain age, it certainly may not. On the other hand, that experience to know may be best. If you are looking to cut down on a particular medication, there is some potential to do that with these medications. ...Read more
Is there any anxiety and anti depressant out there with fewer side effects than lyrica (pregabalin)? Is lyrica (pregabalin) considered well toleranted and effective? :/ ty!
On 10mg of zolpidem, 300mg lyrica, (pregabalin) 5mg of Valium at night all for anxiety and depression & insomnia. Bad combo? Feeling awful 20 days on : (
Intense combination: I would talk to your doctor, you either need a lot of medicine or they may not be aware of how it is making you feel. However, it is important to let a medical professional determine the best way to make adjustments as the consequences of suddenly stopping or even changing could be seizures or a deterioration in your mental health. Stay safe! ...Read more
I take 450mg lyrica (pregabalin) 4 my peripheral neuropathy. Also diagnosed w/high anxiety & take prn xanax. Anything else can take cuz pain causes panic attacks?
It's hard to say: Without knowing more of your history, it is difficult to recommend any specific treatments. I try and avoid using xanax (alprazolam) in my patients with panic, I think it can make them worse, especially in the long run. For my patients with symptoms as you describe, I have been successful with many using a medication called nortripyline, which can prevent panic attacks as well as help with pain. Good luck. ...Read more

16 yr old son, 2 major hip surgeries same day. On aspirin and lyrica, & tylenol (acetaminophen). Since home has had bad anxiety/anger which never had before. Advice?
Contact your doctor:
As soon as possible. If necessary, contact the hospital where the surgery was and see if you can talk to the doctor on call for the type of surgery he had.
This could be a side effect of the medicine or anesthetic. You need to find a reason for the behavior change.
Is he in pain or feel out of control (because he cannot move around post surgery)? That may also be playing a role. ...Read more

Prescribed Citalopram 10mg, pregabalin 50mg twice daily & diazepam 2mg twice daily. Have Severe long term anxiety. Is this combination safe? Thanks.
Med safety: The combination of the pregabalin and the diazepam can make you tired and dizzy, so I would advise not taking them at the same time. Also, diazepam is in a class of medications that has the potential to become addictive, so I think that that is important to be aware of. Be sure to not drink alcohol while taking these medications, because that can be an unsafe combination. ...Read more
