Not necessarily: Lymph nodes are everywhere in your body and act as filters help your immune system function properly. They can filter foreign particles such drainage from allergies, infection or cancer cells. They can become inflamed or enlarged. Probably cyst: Small movable lumps are more likely benign cysts and not lymphoma. However there is no way to tell this without exam. Please see your doctor and have them check it and check for other possibly enlarged lymph nodes. The doctor may want to do some testing. Midline swelling?: If the lump is in the midline it may be remnant of thyroid development. It is known as thyroglossal cyst. I had FBC done after finding a lump in neck. Results came back "satisfactory" and nothing else was said. Still waiting on ultrasound. Is that good?
Yes it is!: There are many different causes for a neck lump. Taking an accurate history and performing a thorughly examination often brings forth the diagnosis. The FBC was probably performed to exclude a tumour of the blood such a lymphoma, and to see the result as 'satisfactory' is reassuring. Yes: A bone marrow biopsy is needed due to the presence of neutropenia if it is otherwise unexplained. In addition, the presence of the lump in the neck is worrisome and should be, if needed, biopsied.
