My 3 yr old has a very high neutrophil count, very low lymphocyte count, high sed rate, low hematocrit. What could be going on with him. Repeat labs?

Infection: The shift to neutrophils and away from lymphocytes occurs during the early stages of fighting an infection or fighting a bacterial infection. The sed rate is a nonspecific marker, that could be up w/infection, or lots of other things. The low hct doesn't fit well, unless just barely out of normal. In any case, at 3 yrs old, needs close exam by pediatrics. ...Read more

Lymphocyte count with high cd19 - what can it mean?

Lymphocyte count with high cd19 - what can it mean?

Lots of B cells: A lymphocyte enumeration is a count of the lymphocytes in your blood. Lymphocytes primarily include t-cells, b-cells, and nk-cells. B-cells are identified by cd19, a marker on their surface. Have the doctor who ordered the test help you interpret the result. The number of b-cells (how how the cd19 count is), your age, blood vs bone marrow, and your symptoms help him/her interpret the results. ...Read more

What does it mean when the lymphocyte count is high? Is it good or bad? And why?

What does it mean when the lymphocyte count is high? Is it good or bad? And why?

Viral: Usually if we do a blood count for a person with an infection would look at the total white count as well as the differential. A high white count with a lotto neutrophils suggest bacterial infection whereas a white count with a lot of lymphocytes is more suggestive of ireland flexion. There is no value judgment per se whether it is good or bad. It is relative to the problem at hand. ...Read more

Dear Dr,

I have low lymphocyte count and high neutrophil count. I am currently taking steroids. Is this normal? Also, I have elevated igG 2000mg/dL.

Need more info: Why are you taking steroids? Did a doctor prescribe these? If yes, you should consult your doctor. The blood results you described can be attributed to steroid use. It would be prudent to see a doctor for proper evaluation. ...Read more

I had paing in my right side yesterday and the doctor thought it may be appendicitis but my CT came back normal my white blood count was low and my lymphocyte count was high I am extremely nauseas and very tired the dr said if i felt worse today then to c

I had paing in my right side yesterday and the doctor thought it may be appendicitis but my CT came back normal my white blood count was low and my lymphocyte count was high I am extremely nauseas and very tired the dr said if i felt worse today then to c

It still could be ap: It still could be appendicitis but the lymphocytes suggest maybe a viral infection. There is a well validated score system called the alvarado score which predicts the chance that your symptoms are from appendicitis. See my website for more at www.Appendicitis.Pro. See "do I have appendicitis? You should definitely see a doctor today. Discuss getting a ctscan with her. ...Read more

I have had a slightly high lymphocyte count for years, but dr has only just noticed. Is there any chance it could just be normal for me or bad news?

It's just you: Reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthies fall outside on either side. If you're older and actually seem sick and the absolute count's more than say 8000, a pathologist might check you out for preleukemia, though it's not really treatable. I'll bet it's nothing. ...Read more

What does a high lymphocyte count in small intestines mean?

What does a high lymphocyte count in small intestines mean?

Unclear: Lymphocyte "count" usually refers to blood. In tissues lymphocytes can be benign and due to inflammation or autoimmune disease, but can also be malignant (not as common, especially in someone so young). A pathologist should be working on this for you to determine the meaning of the finding. ...Read more

My husband has a high lymphocyte %, low RBC count, and high mch, what does all this combined mean?

My husband has a high lymphocyte %, low RBC count, and high mch, what does all this combined mean?

Insufficient info: Your husband may be anemic and needs further evaluation for the cause. A high mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration has little meaning absent a full picture of all other parameters measurable. The high % of lymphocytes, again, in and by itself, has little impact on establishment of a diagnosis. Labs are of little value absent good history, physical exam and a thoughtful knowledgeable doctor. ...Read more

Could Lyme disease cause high lymphocyte count in small intestine and food intolerances?

Could Lyme disease cause high lymphocyte count in small intestine and food intolerances?

No: I'm confident here. Lyme disease is both a real entity and a "pop" / "fad" diagnosis. There are normally a lot of lymphocytes in the small intestinal mucosa, though having a lot in the epithelium itself is more suggestive of gluten enteropathy or a few other entities. If you've got lab support for your gluten allergy (which also has "pop" proponents), this is your explanation instead. ...Read more

Serum iron profile test, Iwant to know about my low lymphocytes and high WBC count, how to know?

Serum iron profile test, Iwant to know about my low lymphocytes and high WBC count, how to know?

Must ask physician: It's key that you realize that reference ranges on lab work are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. If you have HIV-negative and feel well, low lymphocytes seldom mean anything. White cell percentages never mean anything apart from absolute values, and high neutrophils can result from something as simple as a cold shower. ...Read more

What does low WBC count, high lymphocyte count and low neutrophil count indicate?

Had colonoscopy/endoscopy this year both clear Except for high lymphocyte count in small intestine-had colon cleanse 2day afterward had bloody mucus ?

Why did you cleanse?: Your database suggests enteritis--an inflammatory condition of the small intestine (like Crohn's disease or infection, among others). Your bloody effluent after cleansing raises concern for ongoing/undertreated inflammation. Please don't cleanse again, but instead start appropriate medication for your condition--call your doctor today. ...Read more

What does a low lymphocyte and high monocyte mean?

What does a low lymphocyte and high monocyte mean?

Depends: This depends upon what is abnormal. If the percentages of lymphs are low and monos high, it is likely that some stress has caused an increase of cortisol level, driving both of these changes. If the absolute levels of these cell types are abnormal, there could be a more serious infection or a bone marrow disorder that requires further investigation. ...Read more
