If a breast mass has not spread to the lymph nodes then there can be no metastasis to any other area correct?

If a breast mass has not spread to the lymph nodes then there can be no metastasis to any other area correct?

Unfortunately No.: Unfortunately breast cancer can skip the lymph nodes and metastasize to other parts of the body. This happens relatively rarely but has been seen. The risk of cancer in ither parts of the body is much lower if the lymph nodes are clear, but it is not impossible. ...Read more

Doc found a painless mass on my thyroid - what could this mean? I also have painful lymph nodes in chest, head, groin areas. Please advise. Thank you.

Thyroid: This is difficult to answer without a more thorough exam and studies. The thyroid mass is likley a nodule. Whether it is benign or not, I cannot say. The lymph nodes should be examined and followed and if needed, biopsied. Sorry I cannot give more information without examination and workup. ...Read more

My father has a swollen 4 to 5 cm mass in his chest, it is a soft mass, what can be the cause of this? He also has swollen lymph nodes in his neck.

Needs a medical chec: Any lump or growth in the body requires a medical check up in order to make sure that it is not a cancer. So I would advise you to get your father to go see his PCP for a medical check up and possibly some tests to define the nature of this mass. ...Read more

Hello. I just had a breast Mri done and the results were prominent axial lymph nodes and 5mm and 7mm mass in each breast. Does this indicate cancer?

Hello. I just had a breast Mri done and the results were prominent axial lymph nodes and 5mm and 7mm mass in each breast. Does this indicate cancer?

Impossible: To speculate without having the specific MRI features of the masses (e.g. shape, margins, enhancement pattern) to consider. The probability of a cancer depends on the presence or absence of certain features, some masses will have a less than 1 or 2% chance of being a cancer, others will have a very high chance. So, more information is needed. Do you have the report? ...Read more

I have had swollen lymph nodes on my neck and parotiditis, now they found a mass in my lung and half is not working?

Maybe sarcoidosis?: ..Usually a benign condition, but can cause lung or other organ scarring in a small % of patients. It also sounds like you have a doctor, and for the complex situation you describe, you are better off asking questions of docs who know your history, than trying to figure it out online. I tell my patients, use information from the internet to get the questions to ask your doc, not the answers. ...Read more

Mass in r knee, groin and neck. Frequent vomiting. High RBC hemoglobin and hemocritic. Multiple prominent lymph nodes in Central mesentery?

High hemoglobin, Multiple lymph nodes: Polycythemia is a condition that occurs when the bone marrow produces an abnormal and excessive amount of red blood cells and platelets in the blood. The abnormal increase of red blood cells in the blood can cause the blood to thicken and clot.
There are several forms of polycythemia—primary polycythemia, secondary polycythemia, and stress polycythemia—and each form has its own set of causes. ...Read more

Not sure of question: It sounds like your doctor found a "mass" in your neck above your collar bone and recommended an MRI. This confirmed the presence of lymph nodes in the same area, some of which were slightly large, at the upper ("top normal") limit of normal. These could be reactive... responding to some inflammation/infection nearby or neoplastic (tumor). Depending on other symptoms, observation or biopsy is next ...Read more

Is it normal for lymph nodes to swell on both sides of the neck? I don’t feel sick and they don’t hurt. It’s just a fullness feeling.

Not Normal: Bilateral swelling of the cervical lymph nodes is not a normal finding. An evaluation with your primary care physician would be suggested to make sure that what you are feeling are lymph nodes and not another anatomical structure. ...Read more

Hard, fixed lymph nodes in neck. U/s stated nodes appeared normal. Can u/s distinguish a hard node from soft node? Can u/s detect nhl?

Neck masses: Other than lymph nodes in neck are commonly thyroid nodules, branchial cleft cysts, lipomas. If you can feel these masses in your neck, have your doctor order a ct or mri. Ultrasound is particularly good at telling whether a mass is solid or cystic, not hard or soft. ...Read more

Why do we have lymph nodes?

Why do we have lymph nodes?

Part of immunity: Lymph nodes are an essential part of our immune system. They not only generate precursor cells to what is termed "fixed tissue immune" processes, but they aid in formation of antibodies, they help fight any foreign materials in our body and they may be helpful in fighting certain tumors. We have a very complex and effective system to help combat disease and they are a big part. ...Read more

Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.
