They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. ...Read more
I've had a bilateral neck dissection for thyroid cancer in 2011. My neck has been swollen for 3 years. Should i see a lymph node specialist?
No: Lymph node dissection for thyroid cancer at age 22 is essentially cureable. In standard radical neck dissections for squamous Ca the jugular vein is taken. While vein resection is not usually a part of the node dissection for thyroid Ca, these veins may have been taken leading to this problem. As such drainage out of the H&N is limited. Warm compresses to the neck on a daily basis may help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

It depends: if the node is the size of a pea and is not growing you should see your family doctor. If it is painful and growing than you should go to urgent care to check it out. If on the other hand if its a bit larger and non painful. Finally if you want a complete evaluation a hematologist/onchologist will get the job done. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Swollen occipital & cervical lymph nodes. Painless but there for months. Wbc is just below normal. Pcp says don't worry. Should i see a specialist?

I am concerned because you have enlarged nodes in diverse locations especially if they continue to increase in number or size. If they don't decline with antibiotics then get one remover for analysis. ...Read more
If two different specialists found lymph nodes in right side of neck to feel hard but ultrasound showed nothing, what else could cause?
Probably normal: Small lymph nodes often can be felt in entirely healthy people. Usually they are just a bit prominent after some distant past inflammation. The absence of significantly enlarged lymph nodes by ultrasound is reassuring and probably means nothing is abnormal. To be sure, check the specialist who recommended the ultrasound. ...Read more
