Enlarged mediastinal lymph node short axis 12mm. How long do I need to watch it for to ensure it is benign. Doesn't appear to have grown in 1 year.

Enlarged mediastinal lymph node short axis 12mm. How long do I need to watch it for to ensure it is benign. Doesn't appear to have grown in 1 year.

Any symptoms?: If the node has not changed in one year, it is benign. Do not worry about a radiology finding, if there are no symptoms.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

Breast ultsound reports a prominent lymph node 7mm on short axis, retains normal echogenic hilum, prominent retroareolar duct. What follow up is needed?

Why did you get one: At your age mammograms are not recommended unless you have a high risk to develop breast Cancer. So tell us the history and what did your doctor advise you to do next?

Night sweats with no other symptoms at all, normal CBC, ESR, peripheral blood smear. Lymph nodes under 5mm in short axis in neck. Any Ideas?

Night sweats with no other symptoms at all, normal CBC, ESR, peripheral blood smear. Lymph nodes under 5mm in short axis in neck. Any Ideas?

Night sweats: Two things to consider since all labs are normal:

2: Go to bed with lightweight PJs.

If you have been doing something like this for a while without change, a consult to a "Sleep" study would be in order ...Read more

What is the "short-axis" diameter of a lymph node that is 2.7 x 1.9 x 0.6 cm? Is this large for a mesenteric lymph node?

What is the "short-axis" diameter of a lymph node that is 2.7 x 1.9 x 0.6 cm? Is this large for a mesenteric lymph node?

"short axis": Diameter is just what it sounds like... the shortest measurement of length, width, or height, which in your case is 0.6cm. Many find the short axis measurement a more reliable indicator of abnormality than the long axis measurement. Generally about 5mm is the upper limit of normal, so a 0.6cm node would be mildly enlarged. There are many potential causes, most benign. Shape is also important. ...Read more

US revealed 3 enlarged jugulodisgastric lymph node, 3.1cm X 0, 87cm (biggest), benign. Is short axis -1cm fine, even with such a long axis?

Needs to be watched: Your lymph node size is more than it should normally be. Why did you have the test done? What did your doctor advise you to do next?
I would advise you to watch this node to see if it is growing in size. You should also have your doctor recheck these nodes periodically like in
3 months time from now to make sure that nothing serious is going on to cause this nodal enlargement. ...Read more

Is it true when talking about lymph node size they are talking about short axis? So a node 3cm by 9mm is normal? Cause short axis is less than 1cm?

Is it true when talking about lymph node size they are talking about short axis? So a node 3cm by 9mm is normal? Cause short axis is less than 1cm?

Not true: A 3 cm node is quite large; no we do not consider short axis but take the longer axis as also relevant.
So I would not sit on a 3 cm sized node and ignore it. A medical exam should be done through your doctor and close monitoring for any further growth be carried out. If there is more than one palpable nodes, a biopsy may be considered, to rule out cancer. ...Read more
