My Lyme band 23 came back reactive, what does that mean. I have been fatigue, headaches, neck aches, for 2 months now. Could this mean I have lyme. ?

Must take in context: You shouldn't base a diagnosis of lyme disease on a single band of a western blot. A history of tick bite in an area where lyme disease is common, and rash are other important factors. The symptoms you report could be due to many things. Speak to your doctor. ...Read more

Chest port implanted Fri, surgeon said chest/neck skin very fibrous, like cutting thru gristle in meat & dulled 3 scalpels. What could be cause? Lyme?

Lyme infects joints: and nerves. The erythema annular does not scar. So, 'no' on lyme. However, previous scarring would do this. Prior procedures/surgeries in the same area certainly would do this. Alternatively other medical conditions (scleroderma) that cause scarring could also do this. ...Read more

Diagnosed w/ Lyme disease, bartonella, & babesia. Have noticed increasingly stiff & painful neck w/ head pain & pressure for past 3 days w/ fever ranging btwn 99.6 & 100.5. Are these symptoms typical?

YOU ARE NOT 15 MIN!: I agree that you should not assume the neck pain is Lyme spasms, and get to ER. We would like to propose that while Babesia can raise temps, Bartonella can be immunosuppressive-floats in blood--you do not die. A fever with Bartonella I would take seriously. My wise MD friend is right. If 3 infections--missed one? ER. As Fallon, MD Columbia recently posted-ticks are infection bus-over 1-3 bugs. ...Read more

What's the best way to tell a doc I've had symptoms of Lyme, hernia,Celiac, heart, tongue, ear, neck, finger, fog, torso, tick bumps/bruising, problems?

Write it down: You can prepare for a visit by writing down any symptom or set of symptoms/findings in an organized way.Include when they started, any things that you think alter the intensity, anything you have done that helped. Make up a comprehensive list, review it to make sure you have it all. Have a trusted friend readmit to see if it is clear and concise.Hand it to the nurse or tech before the visit. ...Read more

I have an enlarged thymus gland and am a 47 yr old female..I have been very sick with Lyme disease, emphysema, fibromyalgia. Should i go to the er.?

No: The chronic issues you face should be addressed by an internist who can look at all of your signs and symptoms through a wider-angle lens. An enlarged thymus, unless associated with myasthenic or obstructive symptoms, should not be worrisome. ...Read more

Complicated: Treating lyme and bartonella can be tricky and so would really recommend getting an opinion from a university based hospital that has a lyme center or someone that has special interest in this. ...Read more

Every few months, i awake extremely tired, achy (joints & back) & hv digest prob. It is so bad sometimes, i can barely function. Tests so far neg: thyroid, lyme, blood cts normal. Iron ok.Pls help me!

Consider lifestyle: Since this is infrequent and tests are normal; i would look closely at what you have done in the days before these episodes. Our bodies are quite tolerant, but if we consume things like a poor diet with loads of refined carbohydrates/sugar saturated or trans-fats, you may be creating quite a bit of inflammation that will affect your GI tract and joints, muscles and energy. Random aches in muscles/joints that only last for a few seconds/minutes, for the past 2 months. ANA/Lyme/thyroid test negative. Anxiety? Viral? Other?

Random aches in muscles/joints that only last for a few seconds/minutes, for the past 2 months. ANA/Lyme/thyroid test negative. Anxiety? Viral? Other?

Life?: I don't mean to be flippant, but a few minutes of random ache - esp after negative tests might but no more than life as an adult. I don't know your medical history, BMI, life style, etc. but those would help to see possible reasons. If you can, find a health psychologist for a bit of a consult to evaluate your concerns. ...Read more

Random aches migrating around body (muscles/joints). Blood test cleared me of lupus, thyroid, Lyme etc. Doctors think anxiety. Is this a likely cause?

Yes: Anxiety can cause such vague pains, good that your doctors excluded organic causes, many times this old adage, that we all know but don't practice, works: "early to bed, early to rise, that's the key to be healthy, happy and wise", goodluck ...Read more

Further evaluation: I would suggest a work up to include further evaluation of your asthma which is being treated with Advair. The evaluation will include a pulse oximetry test with and without exercise. These symptoms may be related to uncontrolled asthma. In addition, a TB test and CF screening test can be performed. A complete physical exam and history will determine other causes. ...Read more

I've been having fatigue & muscle pain. I recently had a virus so I thought this was Lyme but my doc suggested a thyroid test. Should I be concerned?

Maybe Lyme: It wouldn't hurt to test thyroid. Some of those symtoms could be lyme, but i would consider it more likely if you have had exposure to outdoor grassy or wooded areas, gardening, have outdoor pets, had a recent tick bite or rash, or if symptoms come and go over several weeks/months. ...Read more

57 yr old female w/ Lyme and having night sweats and significant joint pain. thyroid TSH was 1.47 and free T4 was 1.3. Are these numbers ok. ?

YES: Your TSH and free T4 are in the normal range which means your thyroid gland is functioning normally. However, I'm very concerned about the other symptoms. Have you been adequately treated for Lyme disease? Have other likely causes of your symptoms been ruled out? If I were you, I'd want to be sure. ...Read more

Metallic taste & tingling/numbness in both hands & feet. Blood tests(vitamin def., Lyme & thyroid) R normal. Waiting for MRI & EMG. What could this be?

Metallic taste & tingling/numbness in both hands & feet. Blood tests(vitamin def., Lyme & thyroid) R normal. Waiting for MRI & EMG. What could this be?

Spinal symptoms: I agree that an MRI and EMG are the next studies needed. Your symptoms sound suspicious for spinal cord issues. You may need a spinal tap, looking for signs of inflammation. Myelitis is inflammation in the spine. A ganglionopathy can also cause these symptoms, particularly when taste is affected, with numbness. It's possible all your studies could be normal, but will need to be monitored ...Read more

5 days sore throat, severe body/joint ache & fever (100-102). Thought it was strep or virus, but today i find a bullseye-like bite on my trunk. Can it be Lyme disease? Is it too early for blood test?

5 days sore throat, severe body/joint ache & fever (100-102). Thought it was strep or virus, but today i find a bullseye-like bite on my trunk. Can it be Lyme disease? Is it too early for blood test?

Epidemiology : When early lyme is suspected, the diagnosis is based on clinical grounds. Taking a picture of the rash & having a doctor examine it before it disappear is advisable. Other things can cause a bulls eye rash such as a fixed drug eruption, southern tick-associated rash illness, etc. Early recognition is very important. Its too early for an antibody blood test. Epidemiology will help your doc answer. ...Read more
