Epidemiology : When early lyme is suspected, the diagnosis is based on clinical grounds. Taking a picture of the rash & having a doctor examine it before it disappear is advisable. Other things can cause a bulls eye rash such as a fixed drug eruption, southern tick-associated rash illness, etc. Early recognition is very important. Its too early for an antibody blood test. Epidemiology will help your doc answer. ...Read more

Could I have Lyme disease without the rash and sore joints or is it highly unlikely?

Unlikely but...: In patients with lyme disease, up to 30% cannot recall having a rash. In contrast, virtually all patients with the disease will have joint pain as a major complaint. These symptoms can occur at the same time or separately. ...Read more

My husband has Lyme disease he had a reoccurrence with nervousness and stiffness on doxycycline 100mg 7 days. Is that enough treatment?

My husband has Lyme disease he had a reoccurrence with nervousness and stiffness on doxycycline 100mg 7 days. Is that enough treatment?

Probably not but...: Acute lyme disease responds well to Doxycycline though lyme specialists advise 200 mg 2x/day for 30 days. If his recurrence is due to a new bite i advise that dose. If it's recurrence of previous infection, as dr. Raff mentions, this is a controversial subject. There is strong evidence lyme can persist (http://bit.Ly/1ffxjxl) but i feel antibiotics are seldom effective for chronic lyme.See comment:. ...Read more

I had Lyme disease in 2011 and it was treated with antibiotics Could Lyme symptoms persist years later? I still feel fatigued with muscle aches.

Yes it can: Because the organism causing Lyme is a spirochete, it does not really respond completely to antibiotics and some may have survived. Get several blood tests to,check, for,Luke titters. Make an appt with infectious disease doctor today to check this out and get your immune system checked as well. ...Read more

Last year I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The last few days both of my nipples are sore to the touch?

Last year I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The last few days both of my nipples are sore to the touch?

Sensitivity: I doubt one has anything to do with another. Have your doctor check your estrogen levels (which if your taking intramuscular testosterone for example...will convert excess androgen to the female hormone as well). If your hypothyroid..you may be getting too much thyroid replacement hormone. Flomax (tamsulosin) for prostate issues can also cause similar symptoms. See your doctor, have him evaluate you. ...Read more

I was bit by a tick pulled all out and has left a mark for a month? My back and arm muscles are aching but I do not have a bull's eye. Lyme disease ?

Tick bite and aches: You should definitely see your physician as you may have lymes or other disease without a rash. You still can be treated. See your doctor as soon as possible. ...Read more

More evaluation: If your symptoms worsen with exertion (claudication), you may need an evaluation for peripheral arterial disease (PAD). While these may be simply muscle cramps, be sure to talk with your doctor about sciatica (pain that originates from lower back via nerves traveling to the leg), tendon rupture, and arterial aneurysm. Your doctor may also want you to see a Rheumatologist. ...Read more

Can Lyme disease be in your body and only manifest a small rash when under stress?

Lyme Disease: A small, red bump may appear at the site of the tick bite. This small bump is normal after a tick bite and doesn't indicate lyme disease. However, over the next few days, the redness may expand forming a rash in a bull's-eye pattern, with a red outer ring surrounding a clear area. The rash, called erythema migrans, is one of the hallmarks of lyme disease. ...Read more

Can Lyme disease change the way substances and medications affect your body and brain?

Yes-it's complicated: Lyme is a complex illness. Lyme often causes liver inflammation (hepatitis) which can affect how the liver metabolizes medications ; herbs. Lyme also causes encephalopathy (brain dysfunction) related to infection, inflammation ; microbial toxins and an inflamed brain will likely react to medicines/herbs differently than a healthy brain. ...Read more

What does it mean if your body develops antibodies to Lyme disease And blood work shows my body fighting infection ??

Still infected: If your body is still fighting the infection, you will require further treatment even though you have developed some protective antibody to the organism. Think of it as ISIS. Certainly there is resistance to its invasion but the resistance has not killed it yet. ...Read more

Diagnosed w/ Lyme disease, bartonella, & babesia. Have noticed increasingly stiff & painful neck w/ head pain & pressure for past 3 days w/ fever ranging btwn 99.6 & 100.5. Are these symptoms typical?

YOU ARE NOT 15 MIN!: I agree that you should not assume the neck pain is Lyme spasms, and get to ER. We would like to propose that while Babesia can raise temps, Bartonella can be immunosuppressive-floats in blood--you do not die. A fever with Bartonella I would take seriously. My wise MD friend is right. If 3 infections--missed one? ER. As Fallon, MD Columbia recently posted-ticks are infection bus-over 1-3 bugs. ...Read more

Would there have to be bulleyes mark on body for Lyme disease?Been experiencing chest pain/Sleep disturbances.Heart Tests were norm. Not Lyme Carditis?

Not always a rash: The classic bullseye rash is not necessary to diagnoses lyme's. If you live in an area with many deer ticks and there is a possibility that one was on your body for more than 24-36 hours, it would be beneficial to go in to clinic to discuss blood testing for lyme's disease. ...Read more
