Luteinizing Hormone Levels During Pregnancy
Iam 22 not married nor pregnant. The test show that my LH hormone is high. What is the reason? How does it affect my life in future like pregnancy
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
My doctor says my luteinizing hormone level is elevated. What kind of symptoms and/or problems would that cause?
Depends: Right before ovulation occurs, there is a spike in the level of luteinzing hormone (lh). This triggers the release of the egg from the ovary. However high levels of lh are associated with menopause or polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos). High lh in pcos cause there to be no ovulation and an increase in androgens that can cause hair growth on face & chest. These are a few examples.
Turns yellow: Luteining hormone is a peptide (not a steroid) hormone in the pituitary gland of both females and males. Its name (lh) comes from one of its actions in females, which is 'luteinization' of ovarian granulosa cells. Luteinization means literally to 'turn yellow.' luteinization is a necessary change in the ovary so that it can produce Progesterone after ovulation.
Nothing: Luteinizing hormone is made by the pituitary gland. In men in stimulates the testes to make testosterone, in women it stimulates the ovaries to make estrogen as well as egg production. In women, there is natural cycle to the amount of lh made throughout the month. If your level is low, one needs to investigate for pituitary or hypothalamic problems. Taking hormones will also lower lh levels.
Time in cycle: Your hormones greatly fluctuate during different phases in your cycle. There are charts usually attached to lab reports that tell you what the average would be for where you are in your cycle.
Leydig cells: Luteining hormone is a peptide hormone in the pituitary of females and males. Its name (lh) comes from an action in females, which is 'luteinization' of ovarian granulosa. In males lh stimulates the leydig cells of the testes to make testosterone. Please notice that unless done under supervision and in appropriately screened men, this is not an approved use and may be dangerous.
Stimulates Ovulation: Luteinizing hormone (lh) is released by the master gland (pituitary) in the brain to cause ovulation. The egg is released from the ovary and ready to be fertilized. The ovary also then produces Progesterone to prepare the inside lining of the uterus for implantation of the fertilized egg and support it until the placenta takes over production of this vital hormone.See 1 more doctor answer
Hormone imbalance: Lh is responsible for ovulation in women, as well as production of testosterone in both women and men. If it is suppressed, it usually means the hypothalamus is dysfunctional such as in long distance runners. There are many causes for hypothalamic dysfunction which can lead to hypogonadism (reduction in hormone production in the ovary or testicle).
Around ovulation: At this point in your cycle there is a surge in both LH and FSH but much more so in the case of LH.
Many: My best recommendation to use is to have a very well balanced diet high in vegetable fiver and water. For most people, the well balanced diet gives you what you need.

Medication: First, the cause of the low luteinizing hormone (lh) and follicle stimulating hormone (fsh) levels needs to be determined. Second, the answer may be different for men versus women. Sometimes lifestyle changes are enough to correct abnormal FSH and/or lh levels. There are medications, such as Clomid (clomiphene) or inject able FSH & lh that can be helpful. See a fertility specialist and get tested, first.
What can I do to stimulate both my luteinizing hormone (lh) and follicle-stimulating hormone (fsh) at 45?
Purified FSH: There are injections that fertility doctors use that contain fsh. In the past, pergonal (menotropins) was used to stimulate ovarian egg production and was a mixture of purified fsh and lh. To simulate the lh surge during fertility stimulation cycles, the pregnancy hormone HCG is used in high doses.
Can you tell me about hormone physiology: what's the difference between follicle-stimulating hormone & luteinizing hormone?
FSH and LH: I suggest that you go online to learn about FSH and LH. There are several articles designed specifically for persons who are not doctors. Any questions after going through the articles (take your time) send in another note or question.
My blood test shows, FSH at 0.97miu/ml and luteinizing hormone at <0.2miu/ml. I am experiencing ED and malase! What does this mean?
Malase: Erectile dysfunction is uncommon at your age and needs careful attention by your doctor. At the same time your doctor MUST review the lab results and determine why they are so low. Please let me know how things go.
