I got tested because I think I might have herpes. The results came in as "HEP A AB, TOTAL REACTIVE" and "RPR R 1:1 DIL". What does that mean?
I would interpret: These tests as: 1) you have had hepatitis A: reactive hepatitis A AB/antibody. This form of hepatitis is transmitted as a result of "fecal/oral" contamination or poor hygiene associated with toileting practices. You may have never known you were sick. The RPR is a test for syphilis but a titer of only 1:1 is very low. It may be a false positive--no conclusions about prior or current infection. ...Read more

No clear answer...: From what your described about the care for recurrent UTIs, to me, the diagnosis for UTI was not certain but seemingly being treated empirically with urethral dilation, reassurance, & drugs for symptomatic relief; that pattern of care is not uncommon for so-called chronic urethral syndrome. Nonetheless, you feel well after discontinuing BC. Clinically, irritative voiding occurs more in females on ...Read more

Abdominal ultrasound demonstrated mild intra and extra hepatic biliary dilatation. CBD: 1cm. MRCP demonstrated no ductal dil but pancr enlargement?
Pancreatitis: Mild ductal dilatation with a 1 cm. CD is mild. That there is pancreatic enlargement suggest probable inflammation. This would impinge on the CD as it passes to ampulla of duodenum. Farthest site ie mild duct enlargement fits picture. To R.O tumor a transduodenal ultrasound of pancreatic head would show a hidden lesion. Otherwise if needed, a PET/CAT could help. ...Read more

Yup from her (him): Crabs are human lice that infest pubic/anal hair or eyelashes. They don't invade & were passed down to humans from gorillas about 3 million years ago. You may not have seen any rash on her depending on their life cycle during your exposure. You would have had to use a magnifying glass to spot the eggs or the adults since they are only 1 mm long. A magnifying glass before sex is a sure mood killer. ...Read more

I've been randomly seeing little lights or things that look like glitters floating everything dims for a few moments. What could this be? I feel crazy
Your symptoms can be: One or two separate issues. Flashes of light seen in a dark room may be due to vitreous pulling the retina causing retinal traction, tears, breaks or even detachments and should be evaluated. Lights seen in a zig-zag fashion may be from visual aura known as a 'scintillating scotoma" and is associated with a variation of migraine headaches. This as well can be evaluated. ...Read more

Have you ever treated someone with scurvy? If so, what did he or she look like? What were there symptoms?
Never seen scurvy: But I did write a fictional paper in medical school about a ship's surgeon who encountered scurvy in his sailors. Symptoms of scurvy include loosened teeth with gum disease. Skin bruises easily and becomes rough & may have small petechial hemorrhages. The person likely feels tired, suffers from mood changes & poor wound healing. Once scurvy becomes quite advanced it can cause yellow skin, swelling ...Read more
I think I swallowed metal shavings that was in my canned corn. What signs should I look out for if I did??

What's the difference between ddnos and did? Dsm5 doesn't really clarify much more then iv, should I look at the case book?
A spectrum: Dissociation is a spectrum. It can vary from normal highway hypnosis where you've driven for a while and then suddenly come to and you can't remember having driven the past several miles, all the way to having full-blown multiple personality disorder which is referred to as dissociative identity disorder. In between is a large spectrum of conditions based on amnesia, repressed memories, feelings, sensations, smells, visualizations, tastes, and virtually any part of a traumatic experience that a person can push into the back recesses of their mind. Mild forms include what are called ego state disorders. More complex cases are called dissociative disorder not otherwise specified. There are also conditions such as depersonalization disorder which although being a form of dissociation does not have its roots in trauma. In extreme dissociation a person creates an alter ego or self that takes on the experiences that the person experienced as they were going through a significant trauma. This is called a split off part of the self. Because the trauma progresses, this split off part will likely split off another part that is identified with the aggressor. These parts tend to be disoriented to person place and time. They have separate wills identities and roles. ...Read more

I have been recently diagnosed with Keratoconus and did a cross-linking procedure in March. It has been 9 months now and I see no improvement.?
Are you worse?: The cross linking procedure is not designed to improve the vision. It is designed to re-enforce weakened corneal protein cross links to help prevent further progression of the condition. This has been very helpful for many with keratoconus. Check with your corneal professional to see if anything else can be done to improve your vision. ...Read more
Tried everything to lose weight with no luck, I stuck to nomore than 900cals a day & gym every other day, did not lose weight, stopped & put it on!
Too few calories: 900 calories is too few. You are like an anorexic and your body goes into starvation mode and slows down your metabolism. You need to eat at least 1200 calories a day divided into three meals of 400 calories each. Going to the gym is great- keep it up, but you must eat a reasonable amount of calories in order for your body not to reduce its metabolism to a very low rate and halt weight loss. ...Read more
