Multiple things: Ask your doctor if you may have raynaud's phenomenon, which turns fingers and toes blue. Also your doctor can check for arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, or other causes. A rheumatologist would be helpful; rheumatologists diagnose and treat autoimmune diseases, arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions like what you are describing.

However if they feel like they have fluid around the joints, the patient could have an inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid the treatment varies depending on the type of arthritis and the patient's underlying health conditions. Consider seeing a rheumatologist for further evaluation.

You need: To have some testing done! You might have a disorder called "Raynaud's Syndrome" which may accompany rheumatological conditions such as arthritis! Tell your PCP about your symptoms and he/she will order the necessary blood tests. Hope this helps! Dr Z

For a while: Yes, postoperative swelling is to be expected. Elevate your arm/hand and keep salt intake to a minimum. Use a cold pack in the first couple days. Begin therapy or exercises as advised by your surgeon. Swelling should be minimal by the time you get stitches/staples out. If not, make sure you notify your surgeon.

Swollen: Some possibilities are oedema from kidneys or electrolyte imbalance, cardiovascular, rheumatoid illnesses, medications, or fibromyalgia. Consult pcp for workup.

You need evaluation: Schedule an appointment with your PCP this week or go to an urgent care facility if you are unable to be seen to have this evaluated. These symptoms could represent a number of things including an infection, an allergic reaction, an inflammatory or auto-immune reaction to name a few. Please have this evaluated ASAP to avoid any serious complications.
