Lupus Cause Brain Tumors
No: Lupus can involve the brain but there is no correlation between brain tumors and lupus. ...Read more
Brain tumors: In most cases of pediatric brain tumors the cause is not known. There are genetic studies being done that are starting to locate markers and mutations that can cause tumors of this type. There are also some rare inherited syndromes that have a higher incidence of brain tumors but these are rare. ...Read more
Tumor origins: Brain tumors, like any neoplasms in the body, can be induced by an interplay of genetic and environmental factors. In other words, there are inherited predispositions in some cases. One environmental factors known to induce some brain tumors is radiation exposure. Unfortunately, there is much that we still do not know about how these tumors start. ...Read more
Most are random: All tumors result from accumulated genetic mutations that give a growth advantage to clones of cells. Most strike at random without clear environmental risks. A few familial syndrome (turcot's, neurofibromatosis, von hippel-lindau, lifraumeni, some rarities) feature increased risk for one or more types of brain tumors. If you have a brain tumor, nothing that you did caused it. Wishing you the best. ...Read more
Dumb luck: A few genetic syndromes put people at increased risk for brain tumors. Beyond this, we almost never find a cause. Tumors result from random mutations that become propagated. No one's to blame. Scientists who build careers by demonstrating new truths have failed to identify anything credible. The cell-phones claim has no rational or empirical basis. Best wishes. ...Read more
Probably doesn't: Several studies have been done to study this with the thought that the magnetic field and radiation of cell phones cold cause brain tumor. So far no definite cause and effect has been proven. ...Read more
Yes: Brain tumors can cause many disturbances of behavior including a form of hypersexuality called the "kluver-bucy syndrome". Patients with this syndrome may seek sexual contact with both men and women, and tend to use their mouths to evaluate any new thing in their environment. Usually these patients have disease, whether infection or tumor, in both temporal lobes. ...Read more
Any: Brain tumors that effect what we call the limbic system or the auditory or visual association cortex could cause auditory or visual hallucinations. This could be because the tumor is in these areas or because of mass effect even if the tumor is in a different area ...Read more
Actually lots can: One that comes to mind right away is something called a meningioma and one of these could settle into what is called the olfactory groove. This will cause a loss of smell which then, distinctly can affect taste. But why would you be worried about something as rare as Hen's teeth? Loss of smell and taste due to brain tumors are almost so rare that some people actually get used to them. ...Read more
Brain tumors: No. Some brain tumors are benign (not cancers) and do not cause swelling. Meningiomas and adenomas of the pituitary gland are benign and rarely cause a defici ...Read more
No data: There are controversial studies suggesting that use of cell phones can cause brain tumors. This is not conclusive. There are other studies suggesting that living close to power lines can increase the risk of brain tumors. This too is controversial. There are no data to suggest that wifi laptops cause headaches and tumors. Pain can occur from the strain to the neck and eyes with prolonged use. ...Read more
Possibly: This is a problem that necessitates a face-to-face meeting with your doctor. This will allow him/her to examine you, ask specific questions. And possibly order tests to find out what's wrong and what to do to help you. ...Read more
Both: Most patients with brain tumors have edema "swelling" around the tumor. Drugs, such as dexamethasone, which reduce the edema reduce the symptoms, but usually do not eliminate symptoms. This is evidence that both the tumor itself and edema contribute to the symptoms of brain tumors. ...Read more
Seizures: Depending on the location of the tumor, seizures can occur and can lead to altered perception of things--ie. Hallucinations. This may be described as auras, hearing things, smelling things. This occurs with tumors in the temporal lobe. Irritation of the brain may also lead to aberrant sensations that may be interpreted as hallucinations. For example, an occipital tumor may lead to visual symptoms. ...Read more

Come again?: Your question is really WAY out there. I can't recall ever being asked that. I think some years ago there were studies that SUGGESTED that SSRIs MAY inhibit a metabolic pathway that THEORETICALLY could increase the risk, but they were on cell cultures, not on humans or even animals. Bupropion IS contraindicated to treat people WITH brain cancer. Maybe you heard that and got it backwards? ...Read more
