Lupron (leuprolide) shot and side effects?

Lupron (leuprolide) shot and side effects?

Hot Flashes: By far, the most common side effect is hot flashes, because Lupron (leuprolide) causes a temporary menopause. Poor sleep resulting in emotional side effects or head ache are also common. A serious effect from long-term Lupron (leuprolide) is osteoporosis. Many of these side effects are reduced or eliminated with extra "add-back" hormones. Some women have no side effects at all.

What are the side effects of lupron (leuprolide)?

What are the side effects of lupron (leuprolide)?

Terrible: Lupron (leuprolide) causes reversible menopause. So as soon as the medicine takes effect the estrogen drops to zero same as complete menopause. Hot flashes, night sweats, moods, memory issues and joint pain etc. Many dr. S use this for endometriosis but endo is a surgically treated disease. Lupron (leuprolide) only temporarily diminishes symptoms but makes people miserable. Excisional surgery is needed via laparoscopy!

Has anyone ever taken lupron (leuprolide) shots for adenomyosis?

Has anyone ever taken lupron (leuprolide) shots for adenomyosis?

Maybe: Lupron (leuprolide) is typically used to treat endometriosis and to shrink fibroids before surgery. It would likely temporarily relieve the symptoms of adenomyosis, but would not cure it. Hysterectomy is the most common treatment option if no more pregnancies are desired.

Lupron (leuprolide) depot not helping. What are some alternatives?

Lupron (leuprolide) depot not helping. What are some alternatives?

Assume Pelvic Pain: ? Diagnosis endometriosis and pain. If Lupron (leuprolide) is not helping, the pain is either coming from very severe endo, or from another source. A common associated pain is from the inguinal region and is often associated with endo. Surgery to correct this relieves pain in more than 80%. There are other potential causes of pain that should be evaluated. Seek pelvic pain/endo specialist for more help.

How long do the side effects of lupron (leuprolide) typically last?

How long do the side effects of lupron (leuprolide) typically last?

1 or 3 months: Lupron (leuprolide) comes in 1 or 3 month doses (3.75 or 11.25 mg) and these injections usually cause menopause symptoms which I've seen as both mild or severe. It rarely continues beyond the treatment period & is a good way to pre-treat or reverse endometriosis or to shrink fibroid tumors prior to surgery. Discuss with your doc if your symptoms are severe or if you need estrogen to counter the severe effects.

What are lupron (leuprolide) side effects with existing conditions?

What are your experiences with prescribing depot lupron (leuprolide)?

What are your experiences with prescribing depot lupron (leuprolide)?

Terrible: Hate the drug. It has bad side effects and very few indications in my opinion. If it's given for endometriosis or pain, there are other treatments. The most effective treatment of endo is surgical excision. This can cure the disease but there are few providers capable of this procedure. Recurrent pain after surgery needs to be addressed but Lupron (leuprolide) is not the answer. Ther are a few indication.

I had a lupron (leuprolide) shot 2 weeks ago and I am still bleeding is this normal?

Can be: Depending on why you are taking lupron, (leuprolide) it takes a month to suppress your cycle. Did you take the 3 month dose? Why are you taking it? Did you have abnormal bleeding before the injection. Talk with your doctor who ordered it and ask if you have any other issues that need to be addressed.

Bone loss: Prolonged use can cause bone loss. It mimics a menopausal status, thus with lupron, (leuprolide) estrogen and Progesterone levels are lower than would be expected during the reproductive years.
