Go to see onc: He needs to go to see his oncologist to see if his current symptom of progressive cough is related to progression of cancer- or it this is associated to something else. What type of lung cancer that your father has? If this is an adenocarcinoma of the lung maintenance therapy is something that should be considered following chemotherapy regimen.A ct scan is something he probably should get done. ...Read more

The timescale for the rest of my live with lung cancer metastasis bone and liver cancer. I was diagnosed early 2014 and I am 58 years old female ?

Longevity: I am sorry to hear about your condition. The best person to ask is the oncologist (o) who is familiar with you and your case, as the o knows you best of all. There are different types of lung cancer and without knowing the type and the severity of the metastatic lesions, your answer will be best answered by your o or another o. Good luck. ...Read more

Metastasis noted in bone in pelvic region. Now person is noted as stage 4 lung cancer given about 3 months to live. How accurate is this prognosis?

Possibly: Metastasis to bone from any tumor/malignancy is stage4= distant metastasis= spread beyond margins. Prognosis is guarded, depending on originating type. Some metastasis respond to removal or control of primary thyroid and renal come to mind. ...Read more

What can we expect from a stage 4 lung cancer patient with bone metastases- what can be done in case all treatments are ruled out?

What can we expect from a stage 4 lung cancer patient with bone metastases- what can be done in case all treatments are ruled out?

Biomarkers in lungCA: For stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer -- specifically adenocarincoma -- i would check the biomarkers alk and egfr. The response rate with oral drugs for those targets is ~80% vs. 20% with chemo. Bone mets can be treated with bisphosphonate (zometa) or Denosumab (xgeva). Palliative care provided early has a survival benefit. Ref: temel et al. Nejm http://www.Nejm.Org/doi/pdf/10.1056/nejmoa1000678. ...Read more

Why are some cancers(like testicular) highly curable even in full metastasis yet others(like lung cancer) are rarely curable even in early stages?

Not alike: All cancers are not alike and have different biology and genetic factors. Some are more sensitive to chemotherapies and others more resistant. Some tumors are inherently more aggressive. The patient's immune system defends some cancers more efficiently. No two cancers are alike. ...Read more

What is the life expectancy of someone with lung cancer and metastasis?

What is the life expectancy of someone with lung cancer and metastasis?

Lung Cancer Spread: The life expectancy of a patient with lung cancer metastasis depends on a number of factors. Most important is the location of the metastasis. Lymph node disease can sometimes be cured. Those patients with isolated metastasis to the brain or to the adrenal gland have a much more favorable prognosis than patients with widespread disease. Average survival for stage IV disease is about 8 months. ...Read more

Hi, I am ngoan, vietnamese. My moon have a lung cancer and metastasis in bony. She will do chemo on this december 17. Can she use fucoidan? Thanks

Go ahead: Suit yourself and don't spend too much money on it. If you possess a basic knowledge of bioscience, you'll realize that essentially all the work that "shows effects of fucoidan" is done on cell cultures, not living organisms. This has been going on for thirty years with weak animal work appearing only in obscure no-impact journals. Do you want to give your money to people who mislead others? ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
