Lung cancer is usually initially without much pain except for irritation of airway maybe but are found most of the time accidentally when looking for other things or as part of screening. Is chest pain a common symptom of lung cancer if cancer is causing pain how big would a tumor have to be and what is the likelihood of showing on xray?

Here is my guidance: Chest pain can be caused from many causes, lung cancer is not the first thing that should come to your mind. If the pain has been present for more than one week and your concern is cancer, a Chest X-ray will show it easily. But you should go see a doctor first in case your pain is persistent for >1 week.. ...Read more

Recently my mom had lung cancer. Today she was taken to the hospital after some chest pain and there seems to be some fluids in her lungs ( i think it?

Pleural Effusions: Hi, it sounds like you may be asking where this fluid is coming from. Pleural effusions can come from different sources. It is possible that cancer or recurrence and spread of cancer can cause a pleural effusion. However, they can also come from infections, heart failure and liver failure to name some other possibilities. A full eval is warranted and may require draining and testing the fluid. ...Read more

Are you: referring to the ESR(erythrocyte sedimentation rate)? A value of 3 mm/hr is normal. Even if it was elevated, the ESR is a very nonspecific indicator of inflammation and other pathology, and could be elevated for numerous reasons. You are relatively young and a non smoker, the chances that your pain is due to lung cancer are extremely miniscule. ...Read more

25 years old, quit smoking for 1 mnth, sob, intermittent chest pain that moves, doctors say lungs sound clear, no ,cxr lung cancer??

Not cancer: Congratulations on your smoking cessation. Lung cancer doesn't present this way. The pain is almost certainly chest wall pain, but if you are really short of breath as well (and it's not just from discomfort), you need a competent fitness evaluation and perhaps spirometry in addition to your CXR and exam. Adult-onset asthma might be the explanation; it's manageable. Best wishes. ...Read more

It's a choice: Nobody can make this decision for you. It is important that you have an honest and open discussion with your cancer team. You will need to ask what are the reasonable expectations from treatment vs non-treatment? Ultimately, the question only you can answer, after thorough discussion with your team, "will treatment be worse then cancer? What quality of life can i expect after treatment?". ...Read more

When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
