If I have chest pain and my X-ray was clear do I need to worry about lung cancer why would a tumor not show?

Many causes of Pain: Pain in the chest can be caused by many different reasons. Lung cancer can be one of these but it will often produce other symptoms such as cough and shortness of breath. If a chest X-ray is normal then you are not likely to have any tumor in your lungs. Other reasons to exclude is Angina (although it is a disease of the older people) or muscular pain (this is the most likely reason). Such pains go ...Read more

Is chest pain a common symptom of lung cancer if cancer is causing pain how big would a tumor have to be and what is the likelihood of showing on xray?

Here is my guidance: Chest pain can be caused from many causes, lung cancer is not the first thing that should come to your mind. If the pain has been present for more than one week and your concern is cancer, a Chest X-ray will show it easily. But you should go see a doctor first in case your pain is persistent for >1 week.. ...Read more

Recently my mom had lung cancer. Today she was taken to the hospital after some chest pain and there seems to be some fluids in her lungs (i think it?

Pleural Effusions: Hi, it sounds like you may be asking where this fluid is coming from. Pleural effusions can come from different sources. It is possible that cancer or recurrence and spread of cancer can cause a pleural effusion. However, they can also come from infections, heart failure and liver failure to name some other possibilities. A full eval is warranted and may require draining and testing the fluid. ...Read more

25 years old, quit smoking for 1 mnth, sob, intermittent chest pain that moves, doctors say lungs sound clear, no, cxr lung cancer??

Not cancer: Congratulations on your smoking cessation. Lung cancer doesn't present this way. The pain is almost certainly chest wall pain, but if you are really short of breath as well (and it's not just from discomfort), you need a competent fitness evaluation and perhaps spirometry in addition to your CXR and exam. Adult-onset asthma might be the explanation; it's manageable. Best wishes. ...Read more

It's a choice: Nobody can make this decision for you. It is important that you have an honest and open discussion with your cancer team. I don't smoke. I have had a mild dry cough for past 3 weeks. Blood test and chest xray shows normal. No chest pain. Could it be lung cancer? I'm worried

Cough: In general, a symptom of coughing can first be addressed by over the counter measures. Cough specific syrups or tablets are readily available. Decongestant medicines can help if the cough is related to sinus drainage. Giving the cough ample time to clear is advisable (up to 6 weeks) but if you develop fevers, shortness of breath, chest pains, or bloody sputum, then it is time to see the doctor. ...Read more

Male, 21.Er for chest pain. Had ekg, blood test and chest xrays. Everything came out normal. Doubt its my heart. Are xrays enough to rule out lung cancer?

For you - yes: The incidence of lung cancer for someone 21 years of age is essentially zero. I remember reading some where that the risk of a 30 y/o person dying from lung cancer over the next 10 years is 0. Chest xrays are an excellent screening tool. They will miss some small percentage of lesions because of size and/or location. The most important thing you can do is stop or never smoke. ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient.
