Yes: Chances are, the bump is some sort of local infection such as a pimple, carbuncle, or ingrown hair. Is it red and tender? If it didn't hurt, I'd think it was just one of the spinous processes at the back of the spine jutting out, but that should not hurt. See your doctor. ...Read more

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, and physical examination, however, it does not appear to be a serious issue and you may wait to consult your doctor next time you see her/him. If the "lump" doubles in size, bleeds or ulcerates, see a doctor immediately.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

Hi I've got a lump at the back of my head on the right side and it's about 2 inches away from my ear it hurts when I touch it or move my head?

MY ACHIN' HEAD: It sounds like you may have an inflamed lymph node, called a "Reactive" lymph node. We have many lymph nodes in our scalp, including in the vicinity of our ears. They can be quite painful but they are a sign of a healthy immune system. They tend to go away after several days, and can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications and warm compresses. If they persist, follow up with your doctor. ...Read more

Simple vs serious: Our bodies always have things that grow and change. Skin, fat, muscle, lymph nodes, bones, can change shape, get larger, more prominent due to many factors. The vast majority are not cancer but simply unusual growths like fatty tumors, cysts, skin tags, moles, etc. Most cause no symptoms and can be watched. If they cause symptoms or change colors, bleed, bruise or hurt, then see your doctor. ...Read more

My 8 year old has a lump on the back of her neck at the hair line, she says it hurts her, its movable there are no other symptoms, what could it be?

Cyst or Pimple: The most likely diagnosis is a cyst of the glands in the skin - these can get filled with cellular debris and infected...causing discomfort. A Pediatrician, Family Doctor or Dermatologist can usually make the diagnosis by taking a look at it. If it gets bigger or does not go away completely, I recommend you have it examined. I: I cannot diagnose your lump. If it is on the back of the ear it could be a post-auricular cyst. A sebaceous cyst contains dead skin and oil. You could have an infection. If it is behind the ear, you may have a swollen lymph node. I suggest you get it checked by your doctor so that the cause can be identified. The doctor can give better information about whether it will resolve of its own or if any intervention is necessary. ...Read more

Lump: This may be an ingrown hair, inclusion cyst or a burnt out old lymph node. It would have to be examined by a physician to be sure. It may need no treatment if there is no inflammation (redness and tenderness) present. If it enlarges or new lumps appear, more concern is raised and more evaluation and testing are needed. ...Read more
