I have a lump between shoulder blades on spine, did not bother me at first but is painful, red and swelling now, what could it be....

Infected cyst: It sounds like it could be an infected sebaceous cyst. You need to see your doctor to get it examined to know for sure. Cysts can be present for years and never cause a problem. But they can become infected, become red, and painful. ...Read more

Have a small pea-sized lump on my back between L. shoulder blade & spine. Hard. No discharge or pain. No color. Has remained same size for about 2 yrs.

Have a small pea-sized lump on my back between L. shoulder blade & spine. Hard. No discharge or pain. No color. Has remained same size for about 2 yrs.

Cyst or not: Most commonly this would be a "lipoma", which is a lump of abnormal fat, or a sebaceous cyst, which is kind of chronic inflammation from old trauma. An abscess could also be a cause. If not enlarging and not painful, red or draining, safe to watch. Treatment is surgery to remove it, which is low risk, minor, and outpatient procedure. ...Read more

I've pain below skull on left side of spine. Possible lump. Had normal brain mri. Pain also in left lower neck, shoulder and arm. What is this?

Hard to say: Any possible lump should be further evaluated by your PCP as well as with possible imaging. Your prior brain MRI may or may not have included this area on the margin of the skull and you'll need a consult to see if your area of concern was covered on that MRI scan. ...Read more

My husband has about more or less 1.5 inch lump in his back between the shoulder blades. Movable, painless didn't change in size. What could it be?

Some thoughts...: A movable, painless lump on the back might be a sabaceous cyst (not much trouble unless infected), or a benign fatty growth called a lipoma. But the fact is, it's a lump. One surgeon I know says, "the best place for a lump is in a specimen bottle." of course, that's not always the case - but have his doctor evaluate him to be sure. ...Read more

Few possibilites: Certainly a bruise would take time to fully develop, and even longer to go away. If there is a break in the skin, an infection or some of the road can be in the lump (very doubtful if there was no break in the skin). Warm compresses help bruises to resolve ...Read more

I have a hard painful lump on my back near shoulder blade its reali red and soree to touch : (any ideas?

Skin infection: What you describe is either a infected skin cyst or hair follicle. These are painful. Hot compresses applied to the area may soften the skin and bring the infection to the surface, allowing drainage to occur with relief of pain. If this does not work, then seek a doctor to assess the area and provide treatment. ...Read more

Large hard lump in middle of my back, directly in the center, between shoulder blades. No pain where lump is, muscle to the left, neck and shoulder ar?

See a doctor: How long have you had it? You should have it looked at by a doctor, but the most common thing there is lipoma, which we leave alone if it doesn‘t bother you. However, we never truly know what it is unless we remove it and do a biopsy. If someone tells me it has been present for years, I just leave it alone. ...Read more
