Lump between jaw and ear. Above jaw, below ear. I have bad teeth on that side (left). Pain in jaw hinge and shooting into ear. Lump is pretty big.

Don't worry: It's common at age 16 to have enlarged lymph nodes- you have an active immune system. The lymph nodes at the base of your skull in back are occipital lymph nodes. They get big from viral infections, particularly mononucleosis. If these wax and wane in size, don't worry. If they stay big, see a doctor. Rarely 16-year-olds get lymphoma. Look for Changes...: Look for changes in behavior. Children hit their heads often; most do very well after an accident. Crying in this case is good unless it is prolonged. Look for excessive sleepiness, vomiting, or change in mental status. If a bump (goose egg) is there and there is no bleeding, try a cold compress or sack of frozen peas.
