I feel a lump under my left breast on my ribs. Should I be concerned?

Need to be checked: Though it may not feel like it is in your breast, you need to get it checked. It could a calcium deposit on the rib, a breast lump that has attached itself to muscle, a healing fracture, etc. I would start by seeing your gynecologist.

Skin lumps are commo: It could be a fatty tumor (lipoma)which are very common. Most such lumps are benign. But others can be malignant. It all depends on the size and texture. If it is increasing in size over a period of one or two month, you should seek medical attention and get yourself checked.

Hope for the best: Hopefully this turns out to be a benign finding such a lipoma. However, given its anatomical locations, other things should be evaluated for. The physical exam and bedside ultrasound may hold the answer. Please see your doctor asap to address your concerns.

Get it checked: You should have it checked. If it is not in the breast tissue itself then it may be a cyst or boil that needs to be treated. If it is a painful lump in the breast then it needs to be examined by the doctor. Those are usually benign fibrous type growths but you need to have an exam to be sure.

Lipoma?: Only a biopsy can tell you for sure. But lipomas (benign fatty tumors) are common and can feel like you described. How long have you had it? Weeks? Years? If you e had it for years and it hasn't changed you may be able to watch it. If it bothers you or if it's new or if it's growing rapidly have it excised and they will tell you exactly what it is

Medical exam: Any lump which is persistent requires a medical examination by a physician especially if it has shown some growth while you have watched it. Any lump which is painful like you have described can be an infection, so there is a sense of urgency to treat an infection. So go see a doctor and get a physical exam done soon.

I'm a 25 yr old f: I have a lump/1 side seems raised higher than the other side under my left breast but on the upper part of my rib cage is it normal?

Well, no its not: Normal but at 25 the cances of it being cancer are verrrry low. It may be a cyst or what's called a fibroadenoma. Your doc would probably order an ultrasound or try to aspirate it with a needle if he thought it a cyst. Good luck.

I have a oval shaped lump on top of my rib cage below my left breast. Rubbery gel like feel, hurts when I sit long or lean on it, feels like a blockage?

Cyst or lipoma: You need to have this evaluated. Most of the time these are benign lipomas or cysts. BUT you can't guess at these things. See your doctor for evaluation

Today I just found a lump under my left breast on the rib cage. It is very painful and I have another on left back rib which radiates to the front. Are these symptoms of cancer?

Need to see your doc: Only a doctor's examination can clarify what it is. Any lump, if it is new and it is real, means something is wrong. It can be an infection (skin) or it could be something else.

I have dcis and a new lump on the left breast. The surgeon just felt it, and said it's from a rib? Does that make sense?

Catilage?: Your surgeon may be referring to the cartilage adjacent to the rib (costochondral junction). This would be near the breast, but not in the breast. If you feel a lump in your breast, though, please get a second opinion.

Go see your doc: You should see your doctor (prohealth doc). You need a breast exam. Could be nothing, but better safe than sorry. He will address the cough and pain.

VERY worried: Get seen now. If you love your mom, please do whatever it takes to get her to the physician. It may be nothing. But from your description, based on what you've given us to work with, it does need to be seen now.

Pain below left breast, on rib! Flat squishy bump, painful even to the touch! Numbness in leg, cesarean 3months ago! Lump- since birth?

If the lump has: Been there since birth, it is unlikely to be causing the problem. If you have pain underneath your rib, then you need to work with your family physician or Internal medicine to find out if you need further studies like Xrays or CTs to evaluate if the pain is related to blood clots, scar tissue, or muscle or cartilage strain. Hope this helps and thanks for trusting in HealthTap.

Sharp pain around top of left breast around chest... but not not on it. Have felt for lumps but none there. Any ideas?

Sharp pain around top of left breast around chest... but not not on it. Have felt for lumps but none there. Any ideas?

Some possibilities: If your breast examination was normal, this discomfort could be due to an irritated/inflamed chest wall muscle or could be due to a pinched intercostal nerve which runs between two ribs and may increase with a deep breath and often radiates around the side of the rib cage. A muscular discomfort usually has associated tenderness. Your physician can advise you after an examination if it persists.

If I have a tumor in my breast, can that cause severe chest pains? Fifteen yr old girl. Two lumps in left breast.

FIBROCYSTIC CHANGES: Painful breast lumps in a teenager are usually the result of fibrocystic changes, a benign condition that can cause cysts or fibrous growths to develop. They can be quite tender, and can fluctuate in their tenderness based on your cycle. You can use antiinflammatory drugs, like Aspirin or advil, (ibuprofen) for relief, but you do need to see your doctor for an evaluation. Good luck.
