Neck pain & swelling: Greetings. The neck pain and swelling adjacent to the area of a tooth extraction points you back to the dentist. Your family doctor or an ENT would also be an option. From what I gather, you could have reactive lymphadenopathy that would respond to an antibiotic. Your dentist would be wise to re-examine the extraction site for any signs of persistent infection. Surgeon or Derm.: Ask your dentist or primary care physician. Give them more details on the history of the mass(es) and any symptoms associated with them. They will probably send you to an oral surgeon or dermatologist depending on their clinical findings. It's good that it hasn't changed much (usually that suggests it's benign). It depends: A trigger point is the presence of tiny knots along a muscle fiber and when pressed may causes severe pain (jump sign). If you are saying a non painful lump on your neck and there is no limitation on your range of motion. It is unlikely to be a trigger point. Have it checked by your doctor. ...Read more

Have it checked: Lumps in the neck can be caused by a number of things ranging from from benign (like lymph nodes responding to an infection, cysts, or non-cancerous tumors) to serious things like cancer. Any neck lumps in someone who smokes are especially worrisome and should be checked by a physician.
