Cancer is possible, specifically Hodgkin's lymphoma given your age, although enlarged lymph nodes in Hodgkins are more often painless. Other cancers would be less likely. Since enlarged lymph nodes are often near the source of infection, their location can help determine the cause. Treat the condition that may have caused the lymph node enlargement. Unlikely: This "lump" sounds like it could be a lymph node. Lymph nodes can enlarge and often feel tender if you have an infection. Most times they go away on their own as your body fights the infection. As a general rule, lymph nodes due to cancer are not tender. Probably not cancer: If the neck lump has changed little in one year and is still just over 1 cm, it is probably just a benign(non-malignant) lymph node or a small cyst or lipoma. However, you should have it examined by a medical profession for their opinion. ...Read more
