See doctor...: You need to have this examined by your doctor to figure out what it is and to get it treated. If it has been there for 8 months, it is not going to go away on its own. Many things: Could be taut muscle band or muscle spasm called a tender point or a trigger point. This could also be a tender lymph node, especially if you were recently sick. Possibly ipoma: If it feels like fat and it is midline and not on the sides of the back of the neck it very well could be a lipoma which is a benign fatty tumor-very common.
