What might be causing the painful recurring lump on the upper left side of my neck right under my jaw?

Neck lump jaw pain: See a head and neck or oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Many neck/jaw masses are dental in origin, and are often overlooked. Wisdom teeth, abscessed jaw teeth, or other dental pathology may present this way. A good oral exam of the teeth and jaws is a good first step. ...Read more

Sneezed last night and now there is a lump on the left side of my neck just under my jaw line. The lump is smaller today but kind of painful.

A cold: You likely have a cold and the lymph node enlargement was an immune response to the viral insult. Since the node is getting smaller, I think it will be normal again in a couple of weeks. But if it remains painful or gets worse in the next few days, perhaps a doctor visit should be considered. ...Read more

I have jaw pain in the left side of my face, minor congestion (normal for me), and feeling of a lump in the left side of my neck. Could this be sinus?

Sinus: The maxillary sinus is located near your nose. If the pain is coming from there, then it might be a sinus infection. You could be coming down with a cold or have a bad tooth. A rotten tooth in the lower jaw can cause an infection that is draining into a space in the floor of the mouth. If you feel it is the latter, definitely go get checked! ...Read more

See your dentist.: It's usually minor swelling; but this can be a big deal. If it's improving (even slowly) that's great: let it heal. Not to scare you, but I saw a patient today who had developed cancer in that gland. Signs for concern are swelling, pain, bleeding or odd sensation especially on only one side. If you haven't had an exam recently set it up. ...Read more

Lump on left side of neck just under jaw line, can only be felt when I tense muscles and when I lie on my side it sits on jaw tender to touch. Cancer?

Unlikely: This "lump" sounds like it could be a lymph node. Lymph nodes can enlarge and often feel tender if you have an infection. Most times they go away on their own as your body fights the infection. As a general rule, lymph nodes due to cancer are not tender. If the lymph node enlarges or if they increase in number, please visit your physician for an examination. ...Read more

Blocked gland?: A sebaceous cyst is a collection of oily fluid that occurs when an oil gland is blocked. Some folks are more prone to them than other and they often appear on the neck, shoulders, and back. Try to avoid skin products that are oily. Stay away from transfats and bad oils, which is good for overall health. See doc for proper diagnosis because it could be more serious. ...Read more
