Yes, at the back, --: If its swollen for any reason. Generally ribs do not swell, unless growing a cyst or a tumor in it. These are extremely uncommon, to say the least. A healing fracture off a bone could be felt as a swelling. These are located at the back , on either side of the spine and covered by plenty of muscles. Biopsy?: If you actually have a visible or palpable lump then it does not matter whether something appears or not on imaging studies. This may be a nerve tumor (neuroma), or other abnormality, but before speculating further would need more info and an exam. Depends on exam: These are quite common. This may be an old fracture, or it's fairly common to have a bone bump at the costochondral junction. If it were me, and the thing was growing, I'd settle for a plain x-ray film which should be enough to rule a worrisome tumor in or out. ...Read more
