SebaceousCyst, Lipoma: The two most common lumps in the area described are lipoma (benign fatty tumors) or inclusion/sebaceous cysts (accumulated secretions from a blocked oil gland). Hard immovable lump on back of neck near hairline (left side). Appeared last week and seems to change slightly in size. Should I worry?
You should see a primary care physician soon for a thorough evaluation. Your "lump" can be something common that doesn't necessarily need treatment (lipoma, sebaceous cyst) or something treatable (boil, abscess) or something potentially serious (enlarged lymph node) or something definitely serious (cancerous tumor).

Not sure of question:
Dermatologic conditions are hard to discuss without seeing them, but I'm not sure if the quesiton of what it is matters.
"Wart/mole/growth that hasn't changed in any way in years" isn't one of the cancer warning signs.
A dermatologist would be able to remove it and/or tell what it is.

Not knowing your history, there is a concern that these could be swollen lymph nodes versus soft tissue mass. Ask for a referral to a general surgeon if your MD is not comfortable. ...Read more
