May be neck muscle: If it is really behind the neck, it isn't likely to be a gland. The glands are mainly on the front side of the neck. One of the larger back of the neck muscles may be larger than the other side, or may be swollen from being over used. If the lump is hard or rubbery and non-tender, this is concerning. If it seems stuck and not very mobile when you push on it, these are also concerning signs.
