What is a lump about 3/4" around on the back of neck, base of skull? Your guess cancer or a cyst? 76-year old male

Possibilities: It is possible to have a swollen lymph node in this region (called occipital nodes). It could also be a cyst such as an epidermal or sebaceous cyst. Another option is a (usually) benign fatty tumor called a lipoma. If it is getting larger or is tender/painful, or associated with other similar lumps, I would get it checked out by your doctor. I'm an ED RN - a few of my healthy patients while getting rapid IV fluids have described a "bubbly sensation" in back of neck/base of skull, any idea?

Not sure: I'm trying to think of a physiological reason why this may occur, and I'm out of ideas. If you are infusing iso-osmotic solutions at rapid rates, there should be no/minimal shifts of electrolytes across the blood brain barrier (not to mention that this would not be sensed by most people). Yeah...that'll smart: You may be suffering from the residua of POSTCONCUSSIVE syndrome (PCS). I don't know how you were at the type you got hit...for example, from what height did that hammer come down? You could calculate the amount of Force that you took on the head and neck using F=ma but I think seeing your doctor for a referral to a neurologist for possible PCS and management would be a good idea.
