Doctor insights on:
I have a lumbar contusion and it happened about to months ago I now have shooting payne in my lower back worse then ever it goes up and down my spine?
A bit of an odd:
Pattern of pain. Shooting often implies a nerve pain and the pain goes in the pattern of where the nerve goes. There is a nerve that goes OUT from the spine and DOWN the leg (sciatic nerve; sciatica). MRI would show a disk; x ray would NOT.
Up and down might be something OUTside of the spine and then it is tender on touching it. ...Read more

Fell from bunkbed 2 wks ago. Docs said its lumbar contusion. Lately, I feel zaps of electricity lasting 3 secs in my lumbar. Pain does not radiate to legs
Need more info.: Were x-rays done? You might have injured a low back nerve or contused the lumbar musculature. It could be that there is still muscle swelling in the lumbar area. Could be a fracture: Many unexpected falls in ice can create tremendous force at impact. You may have a fracture to your pelvis, sacrum, or even the lower spine. Most of these injuries with an external compression from the side (lateral compression fractures) are inherently stable, so you could stand or walk with discomfort. This injury may take 6 weeks to 3 months to get better. Have an orthopedic surgeon check. ...Read more

I've noticed my 2 year old son gets these dime sizes bruises on his lower back and spine. Is this normal?
Maybe, maybe not: A rambunctious kid can get bruises on occasion over the bony prominences of the spine, shins, elbows, etc. These should reflect their activity and come and go over time. Why does my spine hurts when I touch it? The feeling is as if I had a giant bruise. It started in my lower back and now I have it on my upper back!
? Skin?: Your symptoms are not typical of anything but local trauma. For instance, if you do a lot of sit-ups or other activities in the face up/supine position, you can get bruises along your spinous processes (the tips of the vertebrae you can feel/see under the skin). Otherwise, it could be a skin problem or a muscle problem, as both lie between skin ; the bones themselves. See your pcp for and exam. ...Read more
