Belly Pain (Definition)

Belly pain is also known as Abdominal pain. Abdominal pain is pain that you feel anywhere between your chest and groin. This is often referred to as the stomach region or belly. Almost everyone experiences pain in the abdomen at one time or another. Most of the time, it is not caused by a serious medical problem. There are many organs in the abdomen. Pain in the abdomen can originate from any one of them, including: Organs related to digestion -- the end of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas The aorta -- a large blood vessel that runs straight down the inside of the abdomen The appendix -- an organ in the lower right abdomen that no longer serves much function The kidneys -- two bean-shaped organs that lie deep within the abdominal cavity The spleen -- an organ involved in blood maintenance and infection control However, the pain may start from somewhere else -- like your chest or pelvic area. You may also have a generalized infection, such as the flu or strep throat, that affects many parts of your body. The intensity of the pain does not always reflect the seriousness of the condition causing the pain. Severe abdominal pain can be from mild conditions, such as gas or the cramping of viral gastroenteritis. I have lower right abdominal pain that radiates to my back and  sometimes my hip, it ranges from mild to severe but is always present, it started week or so ago ,  what are some common causes of this kind of pain?

Causes: Possibilities include kidney stone, right sided pelvic pathology,appendicitis and nerve discomfort due to pressure on a nerve root from a disc in the spine. Ovarian cyst or Appx: With your associated symptoms, this could be a large ovarian cyst, or possibly even ruptured appendicitis, now with an abscess. Appendicitis: Chronic appendicitis exists. Occasionally a patient will present after the acute episode with abscess. The abscess is treated first, (drainage and antibiotics) and the appendix is removed at a staged procedure about 6 weeks later. Okay to ask your doc for referral to general surgeon. Possible muscle pull: If it is persistent, would see your dr to r/o a hernia. Sometimes it comes from a strain of the musle attachments to the pelvic bones. Hip injuries and lumbar back strains are sometimes the cause. You dr can help sort out the source. ...Read more

Small hernia?: One possibility could be a small hernia which was not seen on your ct while you were lying down, but protrudes with increased intra-abdominal pressure while sitting. Other things to consider would be joint related pain from your back or hip. ...Read more
