Lower Back Pain When Coughing And Sneezing
Is it normal to have some lower back pain when coughing or sneezing after microd/hemilaminotomy 3months after surgery? But otherwise there is no pain
Back pain after surg: Spine surgery can lead to scar tissue within the spine. Coughing or sneezing causes increased pressure within the spinal canal. A discectomy leads to weakening of the outer disc wall and is prone to recurrent herniation if subjected to increased pressure. If you combine all these factors, it will be easy to understand why coughing or sneezing can cause more pain. If this pain radiates down the leg. Read more
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Spine specialist W/U: It coulb be from disc disease in your neck or high in the back creating some nerve root irritation from the sudden negative intrathoracic pressure created by the sneeze. When not sneezing the disc may look normal, which makes it very difficult to diagnose. The same phenomenon can result from a build up of bone (osteophytes) near the central canal or the foramen where the nerves travel. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
For a month I've had lower back pain n stiffness making it hurt when I sit, cough, bend. Lying down/standing straight feels best. What could it be?
Consult PT: This could be a strain. There's a whole bunch of questions that need to be answered to make the diagnosis here as this is one of the most common complaints to primary care physicians. You can potentially make the diagnosis by trying a simple therapy. Lay on the floor with you face down and perform a press up, while keeping your hips on the floor. This provides back extension. Do this 10x/day. Read more

I was recently taking muscle relaxers for lower back pain, but now I'm feeling upper-mid pain when I cough. Could it be a nerve problem?
Could be disc: If the upper-mid pain you have is in the upper mid back, worse when you move cough, bend or rotate the spine in that area, it may be a disc in the thoracic spine part of your back, a strain or sprained muscle. I'm not sure that it would be typical of a nerve problem (meaning a nerve disease), but we do feel pain because of our nerves, indicated a problem in that area. Read more

61years, she has made hysterectomy 1year ago, it has a strong gland on the lower left side of the abdomen, it has only low back pain and cough/rarewhat?
The actual mechanism: Of a cough can generate load across a disc that may lead to a tear of the outer layer of the disc known as the annulus or even lead to a herniation of the inner disc layer (nucleus polpulsus) through this. The cough could just lead to a muscle pull in the region too! If it persists or worsens, see your physician. Read more
