Stretch and walk: Stretching and walking are the best for low back pain radiating to the leg. Lie on your back with one leg flat and bring the other knee up to your chest and hold for 10 seconds, then alternate legs. Repeat that 3 times. Do this every day. Try to walk at least 5 minutes 3 times a day. Ice and heat can help. Drink adequate fluids. If you tolerate them, you can take acetaminophen and/or naproxen. ...Read more

I'm having severe lower back pain. Pain goes down right leg and throbbs. Have history on protruding disk. Why is pain so severe?

It may be that there: Is a further protrusion of that disc or at least a further tear of the outer part of the disc known as the annulus & called an annular tear or both-any of those scenarios may cause increased pain symptoms. One also has to consider other causes of pain in the region & if the pain is so severe you should seek medical attention for an accurate diagnosis & appropriate treatment. ...Read more

Ive had lower back pain for about a week now. It does go down my right leg but Im feeling a bit nauseous. Could it be a kidney infeciton?

Less likely: Lower back pain that radiates down one leg is due to compression of the sciatic nerve by a herniated or bulging disc or arthritic changes in the spine. The pain is usually located in the low back well below the level of the umbilicus.

Kidney pain from infection is located in the back at or above the level of the umbilicus(belly button). Kidney infection will be accompanied by a fever. ...Read more

Could be disc: Agree with dr badgley that your description is of sciatica. Real question to be answered is whether a nerve root in lower back is compressed by a protruded or ruptured disc, or if a more peripheral pain generator such as sacro-iliac dysfnctn or piriformis syndrome may be the cause. Would not expect muscle relaxer to help here. You need to uncover causation, and treat the pain generator itself. ...Read more

Evaluate Low Back: If you are not improving have your doctor order a lumbar spine mri. Many times a herniated disc in the back can cause leg pain especially if you have not improved with the medications and physical therapy. If it is a herniated disc you may need evaluation from a spine specialist to determine what other options might be needed (injections, surgery, etc) to help reduce pain. ...Read more

I've lower back pain which is now raidiating down my right leg to toes (tingly). X-ray & bloods clear doc thinks bulging disc . What's the tingling?

Nerve irritation: In this case, one of your nerve roots is likely irritated by the bulging disc. The disc may have a tear and release chemical signals that will irritate a nearby nerve root, or even intermittently make contact and compress the root. The resultant stray signals from the root is the tingling. No need to see doctor unless tingling gets painful or leg becomes weak/numb & interferes with function. ...Read more

Male diabetic from 8 years, feeling lower back pain in both side and left leg is weaker tha right, after squats right leg is heavy than left leg thanks?

Diabetic Amyotrophy?: With a history of diabetes, especially if severe or uncontrolled, a rare but occasional cause of leg weakness is diabetic amyotrophy. This usually involved one or more nerves in the legs. It is different from peripheral neuropathy since you may experience weakness.
A more likely cause would be a radiculopathy, which is a pinched nerve around the back. Only way to know is a good exam and EMG test. ...Read more
