Buttock Pain: This can be the result of sacroiliac pain or referred lumbar pain. Pain in the si joint, where the pelvis meets the spine, is not terribly uncommon. Referred pain may be arthritic disc or nerve pressure. Piriformis another cause. ...Read more

Pinched back nerve: A nerve compression in the lower back would be the most common cause; this can be from a slipped disc in the lower back pinching a spinal nerve root, or from arthritis of the bones around those nerves. If this happened suddenly, it means a disc could have slipped at the time the pain started. Treatment is not bedrest (except for maybe a day) but gradually increasing movement along with medications. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
For the past 2 or 3 days now I have this annoying lower back pain right about my buttocks. Whenever I bend over sometimes it shoots right into my back?
Sciatica: It is very likely you have sciatica. The sciatic nerve can be irritated with carrying weight, excessive bending or a simple back strain. Furthermore the relative weakness of your ab muscles can contribute. Recommend tylenol, (acetaminophen) exercise and ab strengthening. Might want to check with a pt for help as well. ...Read more

Sciatica: Leg pain radiating to buttocks/leg may be coming from a 'pinched nerve' in the lumbar (lower) spine. Pain can come/go depending upon the degree of nerve compression. An MRI scan will be able to show exactly which nerve is affected. The most important warning signs are leg weakness and change in bladder/bowel function. Lower back pain over buttocks. Worse when lying down or sitting. What could it be? Is ice or heat better? Don't remember doing anything to cause it
Arthritis/stenosis: This could just be some arthritis of the back. In an acute injury it is technically better to use ice. If no injury, then which ever of ice or heat helps. You could also have some stenosis (just means narrowing) irritating (pinching) a nerve causing the buttock pain. If it doesn't get better on its own after a week or two consider doing some physical therapy to strengthen your core and back. ...Read more
I have a lower back pain for a week and it shoots a mild discomfort to my buttocks. At the same time I feel testicle discomfort but its on the inside.
Is it neurologic?: First, is your problem neurologic; or is it due to intrapelvic issue or abdominal problems. If neurologic, most likely a problem with lower lumbar nerves can cause buttock pain but lower abdominal pain (not pelvic pain) usually involves upper lumbar nerve roots. However problems with uterus, etc, colon can cause very similar symptoms, requiring quite different treatment. ...Read more
Had lower back pain x 1 wk. Also in buttocks. Better now but not gone. Now have tingling down one leg. Should it improve since back is improving
It may improve...: Most cases of back pain will improve, especially with conservative therapies. However, the tingling down the leg indicates a nerve issue, the severity of which can only be determined with diagnostic testing such as MRI and/or EMG (best done 8 wks after symptom onset).
