Does a HHV-6 Antibody IgG antibody level of 45 with low WBC (3.0) indicate a possible active infection, or simply that I've had HHV-6 before?

Does a HHV-6 Antibody IgG antibody level of 45 with low WBC (3.0) indicate a possible active infection, or simply that I've had HHV-6 before?

Two issues: Antibody to HHV 6 more than likely means that you had an infection. WBC of 3.0 is lower than normal and your should consult your doctor for that. See this site for info on this topic. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003642.htm ...Read more

Swollen tender infraclavicular lymph node and low wbc. What do these indicate?

Swollen tender infraclavicular lymph node and low wbc. What do these indicate?

Further tests: You need to see a physician to get examined and get some clarification on how low the white count is, and which white cells are low. Tender lymph nodes in that area could represent a lung problem so you may need an imaging test of the chest as well. ...Read more

What does a low WBC (3.4), a low RBC (3.6), low hemoglobin (8), and high RDW indicate?

What does a low WBC (3.4), a low RBC (3.6), low hemoglobin (8), and high RDW indicate?

Pancytopenia: There are multiple causes for same, some quite serious. If pancytopenia results from infection or treatment, it may be reversible, but you have not told us if your condition is acute or chronic, nor if there are concomitant other medical concerns. ...Read more

Is chronically borderline low wbc concerning? Most recently 4.3 w/ reference range 3.4-10.8. All differentials in range. Indicate immune suppression?

Individual Normals: Individuals tend to be consistent for many such variables over time, though disease or other change in health can alter them. normal ranges are designed to include only 95% of people who are healthy. Being consistently on the low end or even just below the range. While some "normal" values may indeed indicate disease for that person, it is more common for normal people to fall just outside normal. ...Read more

What could a high WBC with high neutrophils and low lymphocytes indicate?

What could a high WBC with high neutrophils and low lymphocytes indicate?

Depends: The answer depends on the clinical situation, presenting symptoms, and medications. I see that you are on Prednisone which can elevate the neutrophils in the blood. It can also be seen in a number of other scenarios including infection. ...Read more

My test results show low WBC, HGB, and HCT with normal RBC and a monocyte level of 13%. What does this indicate?

How low?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, It would have helped to have the actual results. The monocyte count, by itself is not particularly meaningful. ...Read more

My son has had high grade fever since 2 days. His CBC shows Wbc at the low end @ 4.9 and high monocyte @11.5. What does this indicate?

My son has had high grade fever since 2 days. His CBC shows Wbc at the low end @ 4.9 and high monocyte @11.5. What does this indicate?

High monocyte count: Hi, I am assuming your son has been seen and evaluated by his pediatrician? Did he/she order the bloodwork? Most likely, with limited information, a high monocyte count with fever can be due to a viral infection, which most likely is self limited. Normally, I would repeat the cbc when he is healthy again. Also, I recommend you call his pediatrician just to confirm that this is his opinion also ...Read more

Had an elevated WBC at 12.6 with neutrophils at 96%. Does this mean my lymphocytes are low? Does this indicate anything serious.

Had an elevated WBC at 12.6 with neutrophils at 96%. Does this mean my lymphocytes are low? Does this indicate anything serious.

Elevated White Count: A count of 12,000 with 96% neutrophils generally points to an acute infection somewhere in your body. It needs to be identified and treated, probably with antibiotics to start. Since the neutrophils are "taking over," the lymphocyte count may appear low, but your doctor needs to evaluate the absolute number to be sure. The important thing is to identify and treat your infection. ...Read more

My 4 year old has pnemonia. At 104 fever for 7 days now. He has ESR of 48, a low WBC of 5.4, low neutrophil band of 4%. What does that indicate?

My 4 year old has pnemonia. At 104 fever for 7 days now. He has ESR of 48, a low WBC of 5.4, low neutrophil band of 4%. What does that indicate?

Pneumonia: As a pathologist who's devoted a lifetime to the lab, it's key to remember that the history and physical tell most of the story. I'd ignore esr's on folks already clearly sick. There is no really lower limit of normal for bands; if high they suggest serious bacterial infection. Wbc can go up, down, or stay the same in a community-acquired pneumonia. Shouldn't impact treatment decisions. ...Read more

It would be preferably to discuss the results with the doctor who ordered the test as s/he has more info on your health and lab tests need to be interpreted in the clinical context. ...Read more

What could normal cbc, normal wbc, normal rbc, low hbg, and low hct indicate besides anemia?

Anemia: Low hemoglobin and hematocrit indicate anemia. The normal rbc count suggests a type of thalassemia. In thalassemia, the MCV (size of cells) is low-the cells are small. I suggest you discuss the results with your doctor, or that you see a hematologist. ...Read more

Does high monocytes and low amount of WBC in blood test indicate infection? and what does high amorphous sediment in urine test mean?

Does high monocytes and low amount of WBC in blood test indicate infection? and what does high amorphous sediment in urine test mean?

These mean nothing: Only a very high absolutely monocyte count is of any concern if you feel well, and low WBC is of concern if and only if lymphs or neuts are way-way low. If you're sick, this whispers "rule out typhoid". Amorphous sediment is simply stuff that was soluble at body temperature but crystallized as the urine cooled. It means nothing at all. ...Read more

What does a high RDW count 15.9, high WBC count 11.3, high neutrophil count 73.0, low lymphocyte count 20.3 mean or possibly indicate?

What does a high RDW count 15.9, high WBC count 11.3, high neutrophil count 73.0, low lymphocyte count 20.3 mean or possibly indicate?

Nothing by itself: I've had my RDW that high just from frequent blood donations. Your absolute neutrophil count is probably high -- did you have a recent infection? A recent cold shower? As a lab specialist, i'm always reminding folks that the numbers by themselves mean nothing except in the context of the history and physical exam. If you feel well and the white cells aren't described as abnormal, don't worry. ...Read more

Can a elevated WBC (14.1) high neutrophils (69%) low lymphocytes (23%) & large lymph nodes indicate cancer?

Can a elevated WBC (14.1) high neutrophils (69%) low lymphocytes (23%) & large lymph nodes indicate cancer?

Possible, but...: Without knowing more specifics of how the patient is doing clinically as well as the results of other blood tests (like the rest of the cbc), infection would be more likely with this picture (especially the elevated neutrophils). There are definitely other tests that could be performed if cancer was more of a concern, if this was warranted. ...Read more

I have a "Present Abnormal" Western Blot Serum test for P41, both IgG and IgM. Also, low WBC (3.0). Does this indicate an active infection?

My doc just called me said, I have very low WBC and very high rbc. What does that indicate? Im constantly getting uti's. Tired, lack of energy.

See a hematologist: You have 2 cell lineages affected, your wbc's and your rbc's. This may indicate a disease involving the bone marrow such as polycythemia vera. See a board certified hematologist and get an evaluation. Will likely perform a bone marrow biopsy so a pathologist can exam and rule out a specific disease. Neutrapenia (low wbc's) can be associated with infections. ...Read more
