Intrauterine Insemination (Definition)

Intrauterine insemination (iui) is where fresh or frozen partner or donor sperm is prepared or 'washed' to increase the sperm quality then gently injected through your cervix after a speculum exam, like a pap smear exam. It should be painless or cause mild cramping only. Iui helps with mild to moderate sperm problems. Iui preparations should have at least 2 million moving ...Read more

Here are some...: A degree of variation in reporting sperm motility is expected from semen analysis in the same man since there are variations in when and how the semen specimens are collected. Of course, it is a good practice to correlate the lab findings with clinical scenario; so ask your doctor for individual concerns that you may have. Best wish... ...Read more

What is the percentage of success for a boy using IUI for gender selection. It is done on ovulation day. Sperm motility is 94 percent & prg. Occured?

Can IUI help to impregnate even low sperm count and low motility?

Can IUI help to impregnate even low sperm count and low motility?

Depends how low. ..: In general intrauterine insemination (iui) may help with mild to moderate sperm problems but ivf with icsi (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is better for severe sperm problems. If semen analysis shows total motile counts (tmc) of less than 10 million on more than one sa, or IUI preparations have less than 2 million 'postwash' tmc (after the sperm is prepared) on a regular basis, icsi is needed. ...Read more

Excellent sperm count and motility, but 2% morphology, can we get pregnant naturally and what do you think about an iui?

Possible, but...: If unsuccessful conceiving after one year (6 months if woman >35 years), seek gyn or infertility specialist for possible treatment (iui or ivf). If morphology is consistently < 4%, then there is an increased possibility of having a fertilization problem. If this is the case and iui's unsuccessful, utilizing icsi (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) with ivf, can often overcome this problem. ...Read more

My husbands semen analysis revealed a 5% motility but 25 million sperm volume. Can IUI work for us? I have no female fertility problems.

Are there medications for low sperm motility? Thanks

My sperm motility very low. Cn we give birth?

It is still possible: When your sperm are alive but don't move well, it can be very hard to get pregnant. You are much more likely to have conception happen with the help of a doctor. They can see if there is a reason for the poor motility and a treatment, or they can help with artificial insemination (the "turkey baster") that helps get the sperm where it needs to be, or with conception in the lab. ...Read more

How can you address low sperm motility?

How can you address low sperm motility?

You can't (mostly): Most experts say you can't. Even if low you don't need to boost motility already in a normal range. Common sense like reduced alcohol and no tobacco helps some men, but it's a very small change. Men with anatomic abnormalities sometimes improve mot through surgery. Some fertility specialists and uroplogists have good experiences with using supplements and drugs, but no good studies back this up. ...Read more

Sperm motility is 50% but grade 4 and 3 with forward progression was 10 and 20% respectively. Is it low motility?

Normal Semen Test: A semen analysis evaluates several important aspects of the sperm seen in the ejaculation. The most important are volume of ejaculate, concentration of sperm, % moving, % moving mostly straight, and the appearance of the sperm. On your test the forward progression is low. If this was your only analysis, repeat analysis is needed. If it persists, get a urology evaluation to look for causes. ...Read more
