No

Platelet
If this is the only finding, and your physician is not concerned, I'd ignore it. Some people have smallish platelets. I trust you're not iron deficient. Best wishes.

Hematocrit
But I am concerned that you infarcted some of your spleen, especially as a young woman. Please try to find out why -- and if it was atherosclerosis, do everything you can to keep this at bay.

I have an arteriovenous malformation (prefrontal cortex). Now, also really low mean platelet volume. Is the AVM's bleeding risk high because of this?

Platelets

Platelet
A low MPV in and of itself is not necessarily a risk factor for bleeding if the total platelet count is normal. If treating the AVM is not an option, then do avoid aspirin and ginkgo biloba, which can both increase bleeding tendency. Speak to your doctor about getting an Ivy bleeding time test, as it will tell you how well your platelets are working. And do make sure your BP is not elevated.

Dr. Sewa Legha answered:

Is it safe to have a surgical procedure when my platelet count is 252 and dropping and my mean platelet volume is 8.4? Should I be concerned?

This is adequate cou

Blood_clot
Platelet counts will fluctuate between 150,000 to 300,000. If your count is over 150,000, it is normal. Surgery can be done safely(if necessary) as long as platelet count is >50,000. The Mean Platelet volume does not matter as long as the counts are sufficiently high.
