Hello! I took my blood test recently. And i got some not in the range. Like my HGB is 9.5 my MCHM is 28.84 my MCH is 17.37 my MCV and MCH are low too?

Not enough info.: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with his patient. Incomplete info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would have helped to have all the results including MCV value. Also need Hb level, and tests for iron. To make a diagnosis of thalassemia, would need Hb electrophoresis too. ...Read more

B12/folate deficient: You need to be checked out for vitamin B12 or Folic Acid deficiency. I wonder why the doctor who ordered the blood test did not recommend getting these tests done. If these values were normal, then further studies will be required. ...Read more

Thalassemia minor?: With normal packed cell volume, high red cell count, low MCV, I'd consider you may have thalassemia minor. This is good to know because if you marry someone else who has this, the children may have the very serious thalassemia major.
