Low MCV high red blood cells with abnormal morphology with low neutrophils and high lymphocytes counts?

Low MCV high red blood cells with abnormal morphology with low neutrophils and high lymphocytes counts?

Means nothing alone: In isolation from the patient story, lab tests mean nothing. This is especially true since we have no actual numbers. The low MCV and high rbc would make any physician think of a thalassemia, but it would be criminal to speculate further without knowing more about the person. If this is a you or a family member, you have a right and a duty to request your doctor's thoughts, or get consultation. ...Read more

What does having low MCV high red blood cells with abnormal morphology with low neutrophils and high lymphocytes counts mean?

What does having low MCV high red blood cells with abnormal morphology with low neutrophils and high lymphocytes counts mean?

Thalassemia?: Low MCV (small sized) red cells with increased number of rbcs is most commonly seen with thalassemia, an inherited hemoglobin abnormality, but it is not associated with low neutrophils. Not all low neutrophil counts are significant, as normal varies with ethnic background. Infections can cause temporary low neutrophils. See a hematologist to sort this out. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my MCV blood level is 66. how low is this and can it be dangerous?

Find why: If this is a sign of iron deficiency, you're seriously sick and must find the cause. If it's a sign of thalassemia minor, I'm glad you finally found out. There are other possibilties. Get with your physician and sort it out. ...Read more

My MCV blood level is 66. Is this low? Is it dangerous?

Insist on an answer: If you're mildly or not anemic and your RBC count is a bit high, you probably have thalassemia minor which is a non-problem unless you marry someone else who has it. If your RBC count is also lowish and/or you're seriously anemic, you're likely to be iron deficient. There are other possibilities. Your physician needs to explain. Best wishes. ...Read more

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, from what you described you likely have iron deficiency anemia. You may try taking oral iron supplement and a multivitamin tablet for about six months and then repeat the test. ...Read more

I am 25 yrs old. I had my blood test and got report low calcium and high in mchc; mch; mcv. What these terms mean?

Not enough info.: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with his patient. The ordering doctor may or may not consider the results a problem, depending on the patient's symptoms and her past medical conditions. ...Read more

Bloods showed high mch, high mcv, low RDW and high bilirubin. liver test/scan came back fine, what else could it be??

Else what?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the first thing to rule out would be B12/Folate deficiency. What is your hemoglobin level and what are the actual values of the results? ...Read more
