What does a high nuetraphil and low lymphocyte count mean?

What does a high nuetraphil and low lymphocyte count mean?

Both white bld cells: Blood is made up of red blood cells (too few=anemia), platelets (important in clotting) and white blood cells. Normal WBC count is 4-10, 000. Most wbc's are either neutrophils (60-70%) or lymphocytes (30-40%). High neutrophils count (and thus lower lymphocytes) often means a bacterial infection. High lymphocyte ct may mean virus infection. These, of course, are only generalities. ...Read more

Can stress or not eating for a few days result in a slightly low lymphocyte count? (normal range is above 1.5 mine was 1.3)

That's fine: Stress can do this -- you just had a root canal? -- and remember that the reference ranges are set up so that several percent of healthy folks fall outside. Best wishes. ...Read more

Your test is valid: That advice is for the older generations of HIV testing. You are not HIV positive. If you doubt this, then you owe it to yourself to get a HIV RNA test and look directly for the virus and not any more antibody testing. ...Read more

How can you have a high WBC but low lymphocyte count?

How can you have a high WBC but low lymphocyte count?

Speed of rise varies: When a sudden jump occurs in the white count, it suggests acute inflammation like appendicitis. There will be a higher than normal lymphocyte count and many young lymphocytes called 'bands' seen in the differential. If the WBC climbs slowly, then there is not as many young immature wbc' seen in circulation. ...Read more

Iam negative hiv, hep a, b and c after 2 years post exposure, but I found out I have a low lymphocyte count, could my reults be false negative?

False Test results: Nope. There are a number of more common reasons for a fluctuating lymphocyte count (i am very curious why any healthy person would be having their lymphocytes tested) but if you were negative for these infections and no new exposures then you are most likely negative for them still. ...Read more

I am wondering what having a high % neutrophil count with a low % lymphocyte count means as every time I have a CBC done it shows this.

Absolute counts?: If both the absolute neutrophil count and the absolute lymphocyte count are within normal range, simply forget about it. It's you. Trust you are HIV negative. If the absolute lymphocyte count is below 1000, or the absolute neutrophil count consistently above 10000, a hematology consult might be in order. Glad you are proactive; best wishes. ...Read more

What does a high RDW count 15.9, high WBC count 11.3, high neutrophil count 73.0, low lymphocyte count 20.3 mean or possibly indicate?

Nothing by itself: I've had my RDW that high just from frequent blood donations. Your absolute neutrophil count is probably high -- did you have a recent infection? A recent cold shower? As a lab specialist, I'm always reminding folks that the numbers by themselves mean nothing except in the context of the history and physical exam. If you feel well and the white cells aren't described as abnormal, don't worry. ...Read more

My 3 yr old has a very high neutrophil count, very low lymphocyte count, high sed rate, low hematocrit. What could be going on with him. Repeat labs?

Infection: The shift to neutrophils and away from lymphocytes occurs during the early stages of fighting an infection or fighting a bacterial infection. The sed rate is a nonspecific marker, that could be up w/infection, or lots of other things. The low hct doesn't fit well, unless just barely out of normal. In any case, at 3 yrs old, needs close exam by pediatrics. ...Read more

Is having a low lymphocyte count of 4% and a elevated WBC and enlarged spleen suggestive of leukemia? Weight loss and fatigue also

Is having a low lymphocyte count of 4% and a elevated WBC and enlarged spleen suggestive of leukemia? Weight loss and fatigue also

Wrong place to ask: Please forgive my frankness. Percentages mean nothing. Absolute counts are what matters. HOW high are the neutrophils? Simple stress can do this to anyone -- in fact, I've done this to myself testing what jumping into chilly water does. If no abnormal cells were reported, and you're an adult, it's almost certainly not leukemia. Ask your physician whether it's even worth following up. ...Read more

I had paing in my right side yesterday and the doctor thought it may be appendicitis but my CT came back normal my white blood count was low and my lymphocyte count was high I am extremely nauseas and very tired the dr said if I felt worse today then to c

It still could be ap: It still could be appendicitis but the lymphocytes suggest maybe a viral infection. There is a well validated score system called the alvarado score which predicts the chance that your symptoms are from appendicitis. See my website for more at www. Appendicitis. Pro. See "do I have appendicitis? You should definitely see a doctor today. Discuss getting a ctscan with her. ...Read more

My husband has a high lymphocyte %, low RBC count, and high mch, what does all this combined mean?

Insufficient info: Your husband may be anemic and needs further evaluation for the cause. A high mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration has little meaning absent a full picture of all other parameters measurable. The high % of lymphocytes, again, in and by itself, has little impact on establishment of a diagnosis. Labs are of little value absent good history, physical exam and a thoughtful knowledgeable doctor. ...Read more

I have a low count of lymphocytes of 12 between the range of 16-40 and a high count of neutrophils of 82 between a range of 44-74 No symptoms?

Meaningless, ignore: If generally healthy, i.e. no known health problems, you can ignore this result. Probably it is meaningless. There is a reason that healthy people without symptoms shouldn't have blood counts. They aren't very precise and healthy people have day to day variation in results. And yours aren't very abnormal anyway. Siscuss w/ the doc who ordred the test, but probably no reason to worry. ...Read more

Good morning, I have a low white cell count (lymphocytes low at 35%) a borderline CRP and high plasma viscosity of 1.84. What could be causing this?

Probably nothing: Percentages mean nothing on the white count. If your absolute neutrophil and absolute lymphcyte counts are anywhere near reference range, stop worrying. The ranges are set so that several percent of healthies fall outside on either end, and the values fluctuate chaotically from hour to hour. I'd ignore the other values if you feel reasonably well, and look at history & physical if seeking illness. ...Read more

I recently have been diagnosed with a low neutrophil count 680mm3. Lymphocytes and all other wbcs and rbcs are are all in the normal range and I feel relatively healthy. Should I be concerned?

Probably not.: Normal neutrophil count is 1500, no risk of infection until <1000, and severe risk only <500, so 680 is only moderate risk. Causes are many. Sometimes this is transient and related to viral or other illness. Drugs can do this as a side effect. Autoimmune disease can be cause. The absence of problems in rbc or platelets is more reasuring, much less likely to be serious, such as leukemia. ...Read more

Serum iron profile test, Iwant to know about my low lymphocytes and high WBC count, how to know?

Serum iron profile test, Iwant to know about my low lymphocytes and high WBC count, how to know?

Must ask physician: It's key that you realize that reference ranges on lab work are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. If you have HIV-negative and feel well, low lymphocytes seldom mean anything. White cell percentages never mean anything apart from absolute values, and high neutrophils can result from something as simple as a cold shower. ...Read more

What does a high neutrophil count & low lymphocytes & monocytes indicate? Neutrophil % (76 (. Anc (3.42), absolute lymph (0.95), absolute mono (0.05)

Probably nothing: Most adults have an absolute lymphocyte count of 1.6 x 10^3 or more, but it fluctuates chaotically. The stress of minor illness can drop it briefly in the absence of any other problem. Your physician can advise you depending on your health otherwise and may choose no follow-up. Everyone is wise to be checked occasionally for hiv. ...Read more
